Why is everyone in LOVE with carbon fiber?
I understand the weight reduction thing - which makes sense for big parts like the hood and trunk - but carbon fiber emblems? Carbon fiber grill? Carbon fiber gas door?
WHat's next, carbon fiber door handles, lug nuts and pedals. If we are going that route, why not a carbon fiber shift knob, glove box and steering wheel? It just seems to me that there is getting to be too much of a good thing. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should... |

I'm not a big fan of carbon fiber on DD cars myself. It's great for show-cars but I don't take ppl w/ random CF parts (I.E. side mirrors) seriously. But good on you if you slap every CF or Dry-Carbon part on your car and rock some sick time at a time-attack event. Other than that though...I find it kinda ricey.

It makes your different from other cars. Ask yourself do you want your car to look like everyone elses? Why do you choose different rims than another person on this site? To be different right? You want originality. So people who has CF grills, etc, whats their car to stick out and be different.

I personally wouldn't put it on my car.. there are far more logical ways to gain performance by spending on parts than saving a few pounds with a hood or trunk lid.. I suppose if you've completely ripped your interior out and don't have any other way to save weight, sure... but still.
Each to their own, some people particularly like the style. |

I personally like CF if it is applied tastefully like maybe a CF trunk and hood or maybe a CF lip but the whole CF thing HAS gotten outta hand with wheels and steering wheels made out of it.it would be one thing if you had a full dry carbon bodied car and whatnot but noone will really be able to tell the difference performance wise from the addition of a few lighter parts that save you maybe 25-40 lbs.To me it is mainly an appeance thing.Carbon fiber is good for intake construction though as it does'nt heatsoak as bad as metal would.

VIS or Seibon aren't using 100% carbon fiber hoods. There's a large quantity of fiber glass in their hoods and I would hardly consider the weight reduction worth it for the price - $400 to $500. I think it's more or less a cosmetic mod. Our hoods are insanely small. I would rather use the money for something with bigger gains - reflash, exhaust, etc.
