First Oil Change questions

hey guys im at 4,000 miles and at 20 percent on my oil life indicator. Im about to order some amsoil for my transmission and was wondering if i should get some synthetic oil for the engine as well. Should I stick with what the dealer has to offer til the next oil change? Is it too early to switch to synthetic?

Also is the only way to get amsoil through the net? Thanks

If U wanna go with Synthetic, then U can do it now. As far as a cheap Amsoil link, I don't know any...Just Google it, and you'll get one eventually.

No it's not too early to switch to synthetic. Good choice with Amsoil.
If you happen to have a free oil change coupon from the dealer then I don't see why you shouldn't use it, save yourself $30.

I just did the first change in my car... and I would not think about using anything BUT synthetcis in this car. I went with Amsoil's 100% syn 5w-30.... and the car will continue to use this oil so long as Amsoil is around... :) good stuff...

Your motor is broken in. Now is the time to switch over to a quality synthetic. Amsoil makes a great product. When my motor is broken in, I will be using Royal Purple.

I'll be using the same thing. I might go with the OEM filter though. The Amsoil filter is 3x the cost of one filter here in town.

Just changed to amsoil today at about 4000 miles, but have ?s

OK, I was going to start a thread of my own but this one fits almost perfectly. I brought my Si in to the dealership today with 3927 miles and 30% oil life. I've had my stash of amsoil sitting in my garage for about a month in anticipation of my first oil change. So far my car has ticked down 10% oil life about every 500 miles on the head so right around 4000 miles I figure it would have been at 20%. So for the record we'll say I was at about 21-22% oil life. I would have waited until I hit 15% but I'm going on a 3000 mile road trip on thursday. So I brought it in today to change the oil but had some concerns about changing it before 15% oil life on the first oil change. I asked the guy that greeted me when I pulled into the service garage what he thought and he pretty much said, it's fine, do whatever you want, it's your car. So I went with it. Then after the oil change he tells me, our tech was wondering if you were planning on always running amsoil or not, you may want to run Honda oil or some other non synthetic/synthetic blend until about 15,000 miles when everything is seated properly. So now I'm damn confused, but I think I'm just going to run with amsoil unless I start burning a lot of oil or something seems wrong. They also told me they replaced a $0.22 washer on the drain plug, and they suggest doing that on every oil change. You guys ever hear of that one? For the record the car seems noticeably smoother at idle and during acceleration with the amsoil 5W30 fully synthetic.

For the person that needed an amsoil link here's the oil I bought:
https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/asl.aspx
There isn't really a way to get a deal, but you can either pay the price that comes up on the website for the oil ($7.25/qt), or you can buy a "membership" for $10 that lasts 6 months and gives you a 20-30% discount on everything and bring the price of the oil to $5.70 a quart. If you buy the oil and the MTF you save money buying the membership. 6 quarts of oil, an oil filter, 2 quarts of the MTF, and a 6 month membership bring your to $73.88 before shipping. But I didn't pay for shipping because there is a warehouse about 10 miles from my house!

Yodums - I was pulling for your boys last night, but those damn Ducks are crafty. They put away my Wild for the season in the first round of the playoffs. They're a damn good team. Dirty, but good. You'll hate them with a passion by the end of the series.

I think switching over to synthetic immediately is fine. From how you worded it, he only dished out that advice as a percaution. I'll be jumping directly to synthetic myself.

Yes, you should be replacing the crush washer (the $0.22 part) every time. It'll prevent the chances of you stripping the threads. There are people who don't change it and haven't had any problems, but for a 22 cent part, I just replace it.

Jumping to a synthetic oil before everything on the has seated properly can cause your car to become a 'oil burner.' So, wait until at least your first or second oil change.

The owner's manual says you can use synthetic and did not have a warning about switching too soon; I'm sure Honda's engines are top notch and switching right away won't be a problem, the benefits may outweigh the harm

There is no reason not to switch to sysnthetic at the first oil change... I assure you that the engine is properly broken in by the 5K mark... even Honda says leave the break in oil in until the first change and then you can switch to whatever.

I would suggest breaking down and buy 15 quarts of Amsoil Oil once you have the 6 month membership... it will give you enough oil for 3 changes and you will be able to repeat the membership/purchase later on. I would also check to see if you are close to an Amsoil distribution center... I don't have to pay shipping because I live like 15 minutes away from one in Texas :)

OKAY problem...
I have an intake that was installed in mid-may bought the car March 17 it has 5k on it. Here is the catch i changed the oil to synthetic and now i have hesitation on the throttle sometimes...and lets say i am pulling up to a stop light or sign sometimes it will die on me!!! WTF??!?! I saw one of the hoses on the intake was pinched so I fixed that...it is STILL doing it. I dont know what to do or what it could be. Butterfly is fine and in good condition. Nobody else has this problem?

What about your MAF Sensor? Is it damaged? Is there a build up of Oil Residue on it from the CAI Filter??

Check it out...

Your problem is not the oil. Your problem is the intake. Put the stock intake back on and reset the ECU.
