Thinking About Trading My Si
I'm really thinking about trading in my Si for a used Evo or STi with about the same mileage. I have never driven either of these cars but I know I want AWD and a little more power and these two seem to fit. If someone could inform me about these cars, such as pros., cons., differences, that would be great. Thanks.

If you want to leave it stock I would go for an sti. If you want to mod I would go for an EVO IX.
I think stock for stock Jeremy Clarkson said it best: "The Mitsubishi Evolution probably should've been named the "Excuse me, I think you spilled my pint," While the Subaru STi should've been named the "You, outside, NOW." A stock STi just has a certain thrill to drive. Idk what it is, but after driving one for the first time I was hooked. And the last time I drove one I hit the rev limiter in a few gears.. around the corner from the dealership on the way for my friend to trade it in. ![]() Awesome |

Sometimes it will be faster, other times it will lose. But to make it seem as if it's just all out faster is just wrong. [edit] and the evo 9 is beautiful.. the evo 8 was ugly though IMO. I never understood why I hated evos so much until I saw the 9 and realised it was all the little things that changed on the 9 is what made the 8 so ugly to me. The front bumper on the 8 makes me want to take a nap.. but the bumper on the 9 makes me want to act like I'm taking a nap and really be having some fun with myself under the covers. lol. Plus, You can always go wingless on the sti and get a nice lip kit. That = sex |

I wouldn't buy either until the new models appear. Resales will drop more when the new models hit . If you have to have one now then go with the STi. IMO it's put together better then the EVO. Coming from a Honda you would be let down with the Quality of the interior in the EVO also.

I have to say, I traded in my WRX for the Si due to numerous problems I was having with the Subaru and for gas mileage concerns....and now, only 3700 miles later on the new Si, I am finding myself spending more time on the Subaru boards again, looking on Autotrader, and thinking about looking for another WRX this summer.....my wife will kill me......

Obviously, these are two completely classes of cars (Si vs Evo) but here is my opinion Performance: Hands down the Evo is quicker, higher top speed, brakes were outstanding, and the handling is great. I usually averaged around 22-24 MPG and that is a little higher than the norm. Ride: Si has a better ride, much quieter and easier to live with as a daily driver. I had the SSL (leather, sunroof, HIDs) and I like the interior much better in the Honda. Some people complain about the Si rattles, drive an Evo with some miles on it, then get in the Si. You will stop complaining General: I really enjoyed the Evo, but I think you will be happier with the Si in the long run. Check out how much brake pads for the Evo last, and then check out the price, it's unreal. I never had to replace, but I don't drive hard much and they were getting worn. Except to have tires replaced at 10 - 15K and the ADVAn OEM are about 250 for one tire! Not to mention you don't want to think about using the OEM in the cold! The Evo shifted like a coal truck compared with the Si (the IX have improved shifter cables I think). As a daily driver, the Evo disappoints (it is what it is and makes no apologies). Expect no torque at all below 3K rpms. It was easy to stall with A/c on while pulling out. Past 3K, you had better hang on as the turbo hit hard and fast at about 3.5K. Other considerations are insurance (expect at least 40%) increase, services (requires fully synthetic, plus plan on adding a quart between oil changes). It is a fun car, some use for a daily driver, but got old quicker than I expected. I actually traded it for a GS 300 AWD. I am much happier with my Si than most cars I have owned. They are "fun" and most come without the headaches of the cars you mentioned. Check out the forums for STI and EVO, you'll find many issues on both. I never had a major issue with mine, but the clutch is main complaint. With STI, it used to be engine mounts. They may have updated this with new models; I have not checked the forums in quite some time. Good luck with your decision. |
