Post Gas Mileage poll: Summer tires vs. All-season tires on the Si

A slight variation on the gas mileage poll, to determine the role of rolling resistance of the two original equipment tires sold on the Si. Please provide the following information:

1. Year of car/coupe/sedan:
2. Miles on odometer:
3. Tires: (original equipment only)(summer or all-season)
4. Driving style: 1-10 Likert scale (1=easy, 5=moderate, 10=aggressive) (admittedly a subjective measure)
5. VTEC use: (average times over 6K per tankful)
6. MPG (overall, not a single tank)

Here's mine:
1. 2007 sedan
2. 6125 since new
3. Summer tires
4. 7
5. 12x/tank
6. 28.1 mpg overall

Thanks, everyone!

1. 07 Coupe
2. 3600
3. OEM All season
4. 7-8
5. 22-23MPG. My worst was 18MPG, and my best was 28.9MPG (all highway). I can calculate my "overall" mileage but I haven't yet. Seems like every tank is 21-24MPG though with a mix of probably 70/30 city to highway miles.
6. About 2x per trip. 60+ times per tank.
We could probably come up with some kind of formula where every time you you lose approximately .1 MPG on your tank of gas or something like that! I think these cars suck gas like a V8 during Vtec.

1. 07 Si Coupe

2. 7,000 miles

3. Summer Tires

4. Driving moderate to aggressive 5-10 depending on mood

5. VTEC use, umm i dunno, 50 times i suppose

6. MPG usually 24 if i beat it 28 if i drive normal and beat it a little bit less (65% city 35% hwy, basically running round town delivering pizzas )

I have a scangague too so i can test ideas and see results in #s.

My current MPG techniques, these may help you:

If not in a hurry on side street stop signs i go 1st gear to 3k rpm, then shift right to 4th gear, shift to 5th gear at about 22 mph then go to 6th at 28 or so mph.
If you do this all day on side streets w/ top speed of 35 MPH you can easily get 25-28 MPG, for stop and go thats pretty good.

I keep it in the lowest gear possible. Crusing above 30 MPH i'm always in 6th unless i need power.

Coast to stop signs/lights, i just pop it into neutral and coast only about 2-3x the what the normal person does, not like insanely long coating but just enough. (note you get 100-200 MPG when coasting )

Barely feather the clutch commin off the line, i try to come off at about 1k rpm, more wasted gas if your feather it to 2-3k rpm w/ such short gears.

Hope those help you...

Its basically like those little info center things most luxury cars have that display MPG (and ALOT more) and stuff but its an add on and can be used on any OBDII car. It can also read and clear trouble codes.

Pretty easty to install, just plug it into your OBDII port (located by the drivers right leg under the dash)

Thanks a lot for the info. I'll stick that on the future mods list. I read up on the website and it definitely sounds like it's an investment worth the $. Where did you install your screen? Is it able to actually monitor ALL of these things that it lists it can do or only some of them?

I really like mine, though to be fair it's mostly a toy for me. I do enjoy being able to see current MPG, and the feature I use most often has to be the coolant temperature. I like that precise data vs. the standard vague gague. I've mounted mine in between the two cubbies in the lower center dash--the one just below the radio and the one below that, in front of the gearshift. It's a convenient little nook, out of the way but easy to see at a glance. I'm learning that standard velcro glue doesn't like summer heat, though!

As for what we can read, my memory's a bit fuzzy and I'm away from the car for the weekend. I THINK the only thing I couldn't call up was fuel rate.

EDIT: Note that the gague can only show you four items at any one time.

OK, 10 replies so far...

Not enough to draw any conclusions from the information provided, unfortunately.

Well this threads not gonna give you any answers. Too many factors. Only way you could find out is get 2 Si's w/ scangauges, 1 w/ summer tires and the other w/ all season and line them up doing 70 mph, reset the trip and see how the MPG turns out after 10 miles or something.
