New Honda MTF, 3rd Gear (Already Covered, I Know)
Since this was posted in the technical forums, I thought I'd bring this over here to see if I could get some more attention and feedback, specifically about the new Honda MTF.

For those who are having a touchy 3rd gear (wall, pops out) I was curious to know if anyone had tried this yet and seen any results. I'm less than 900 miles in and my 3rd gear popped out again this morning. I called the dealership about it today, and they told me to bring it in. It's not bad to change the MTF this early, is it? not to rain on your parade - but as you've already conceded, all of this information has been posted previously.
people have tried it, and yes, it helps a bit. it's not bad to change your MTF this early, especially if you're experiencing the issues documented in that bulletin.. as per that bulletin, that's what they recommend. I did Amsoil instead, and there's been an improvement, although it's still not perfect.

The dealership refused to acknowledge that as valid Honda material, and told me they would not do it under warranty.
Getting really tired of all this...

I'm wondering if I already have the new MTF... my Si is 3 weeks old and the vin is in the 7000s.
turns out my build date is after that service notice... 2/07. i'm guessing it already has it? maybe i should just switch to amsoil now... Last edited by pinchycm; 05-15-2007 at 09:49 AM. |

Another technique which helps a TON is as follows. When you start the car in the morning, as you let the motor warm up, depress the clutch and go through the gears 1-2-3-4-5-6-5-4-3-2-1-2-3-4-3-2-1-2-3-4-3-2-1-2-3-2-1-2-3-2-1 something like that, doing the lower three more than the upper ones. You will see that if you do this before driving, you will (a) not have notchiness, and (b) will have less-- if any-- false third gear shifts. let me know how it works out and if you want a link to the other thread pm me. |
