New Honda MTF, 3rd Gear (Already Covered, I Know)

Since this was posted in the technical forums, I thought I'd bring this over here to see if I could get some more attention and feedback, specifically about the new Honda MTF.

Stiff Shifting, Popping Out of Gear?

Replace the MTF

NOTE: This article applies to all M/T-equipped Honda cars and trucks.

We’ve heard reports of customers complaining about the M/T shifting stiffly or popping out of gear. In each case, the M/T was using aftermarket MTF or old Honda MTF. If you’ve got a vehicle in your shop that fits this profile, try draining the MTF and replacing it with new Honda Genuine MTF (P/N 08798-9031, H/C 8429094). This new MTF offers better overall shift quality in cold weather (especially in freezing temperatures), and it’s got better friction reduction for improved fuel economy and longer transmission life. After filling the M/T with this new MTF, take a 10-mile test-drive around town so you can do a lot of shifting. If you’ve still got this problem after your test-drive, then it’s time to do some troubleshooting.

For those who are having a touchy 3rd gear (wall, pops out) I was curious to know if anyone had tried this yet and seen any results.

I'm less than 900 miles in and my 3rd gear popped out again this morning. I called the dealership about it today, and they told me to bring it in. It's not bad to change the MTF this early, is it?

not to rain on your parade - but as you've already conceded, all of this information has been posted previously.

people have tried it, and yes, it helps a bit.

it's not bad to change your MTF this early, especially if you're experiencing the issues documented in that bulletin.. as per that bulletin, that's what they recommend.

I did Amsoil instead, and there's been an improvement, although it's still not perfect.

Yeah - the info's pretty scattered and there is much more talk about Amisol than the new Honda MTF. I was hoping to get more feedback on this specifially on the new Honda MTF. :)

The dealership refused to acknowledge that as valid Honda material, and told me they would not do it under warranty.

Getting really tired of all this...

I'm wondering if I already have the new MTF... my Si is 3 weeks old and the vin is in the 7000s.

turns out my build date is after that service notice... 2/07. i'm guessing it already has it?

maybe i should just switch to amsoil now...

Hey, having built 1 k-series transmission and this (06si) being my third, I can tell you, hands down, that I have tried a ton of fluids, and to date, the best solution for me has been or buy penzoil synchromesh and replace the fluid every 15k. I posted a thread on a forum for the 02+ si's which blew up to many many pages of technical details. The penzoil is easy to find (autozone of pep boys), cheap, and it works small miracles.

Another technique which helps a TON is as follows. When you start the car in the morning, as you let the motor warm up, depress the clutch and go through the gears 1-2-3-4-5-6-5-4-3-2-1-2-3-4-3-2-1-2-3-4-3-2-1-2-3-2-1-2-3-2-1

something like that, doing the lower three more than the upper ones. You will see that if you do this before driving, you will (a) not have notchiness, and (b) will have less-- if any-- false third gear shifts.

let me know how it works out and if you want a link to the other thread pm me.

You need a different dealer (if possible).

I don't have any issues with my 06 but I plan on changing both the oil and Tranny to AMSOIL...

Wait... I am the only one that is locked out of the upper gears (5 and 6) when the car is stopped?
