I am struggling with breaking in my si

I am breaking in my si...I have only 100 miles on it and have babied it, not going over 5,000 rpm's...it is tempting though! I want to get on it bad! But, I am continuing to baby it...even when a subaru wrx looked over at me...and a v8 mustang eyed me...I feel like a grandma driving!
I am waiting for 600 miles...

There isn't a break in procedure for this car. But I was anal and babied it for 250 miles, then I let her rip. Drive it like you stole it.

its actually better to go through the rpm's a couple of times while breaking it in, so that way when you do get done with the break in process and you take to it red line it wont be such a foreign area for the motor.

Do what Honda's book tells you to do. Easy on the breaks for the first few hundred miles, and take it easy with the fast fluctuating RPMs until around 600.

My understanding of modern cars is the the engine is broken in for the most part as it drives off the assembly line. I think that the breaking in proceedure if for the transmission/synchros to mesh easily before they are shifted hard and loaded up.

It is good to show the engine revs at mild throttle before you go WOT.

Its your car, do what the H-E-Hockey Stick-Hockey Stick you want. I know I hated the 550 mile break in. I only brought her up to 5 grand and vtec her only 2 times at 300 and 500, but at 550, I was like 50 miles wont hurt, and I beat the hell out of her. I rested better knowing that I followed the rules. Do whatever you think will let you sleep better with no regrets. It is only 600 miles, then you have enough miles until the wheel fall of to the pi$$ out of it. You either have self control and wait, or completly regret free flog the hell out of it.

Well, my suggestion is just to hit higher RPMs gradually with the break in. For instance, staying under 3500-4000 rpm for the first 600 miles and hitting redline the moment it hits 601 miles is not good.

There are two break-in rules. They apply to both cars an motorcycles

1) Follow owners manual and keep the RPMs low

2) Drive it like you stole it as this is better

While I viewed the +/- of both I will be going with #1

600 Miles is NOT a lot. If all you do is local street driving then yea, but just take it on a few highway rides. You'll get there.

Just go cruising on some back roads... vary the engine speed... 600 will be out of the way before you know it... it took me 2 weeks only driving her on the weekend to have my FA5 past 600... took delivery of her on December 27, 2006... and now, I have just over 2900 miles on it... almost time to switch the "break in" oil out for the Amsoil sitting on my shelf...

It's better that you didn't race that v8 stang and the WRX. Both cars would have made you look bad.
