Confused with oils

I have been using Castrol GTX 5w-30 and now realized it isn't syntehtic like I thought it was. I searched for what was the best syntehtic oil and what viscosity to run but am dumbfounded. I was thinking Redline or Amsoil and sticking with 5w-30??

Honda Genuine Full Synthetic is best for your Honda. Royal Purple is not bad either. More expensive and you have to order it, Redline or Amsoil.

I dont think it matters as much as you'd think. The oil nazis might be offended but if you keep your oil maintenance on track theres no reason to go to synthetic unless you are tracking it.

Stick with 5w-30 M1 Extended Performance is a good full synthetic, beyond that youre going to start paying alot of money.

The oils I list are all in the same class and are a class above any Mobil 1 or castrol. The Honda oil is the only one you can buy reliably at a local dealer, plus with it being made for our cars, it should be a no brainer.

if you want the best you can buy off the shelf. buy castrol 0w30 german synthetic. other wise any 530 synthetic will be perfectly fine. just buy what ever your local auto store has on special for 5qts and a filter.

i did my last oil change with m1 synthetic but Im thinking i might go back to dino. I havent checked my dipstick to see how the consumption compared to the regular oil yet though, that might be a deciding factor because my car does burn a bit of oil between changes.

If you have the money to spend I would recommend Amsoil or Schaeffer's. Most off the shelf synthetic oils are good, such as Mobil 1, but are considered "factory fill" emission oils. This is because they have been stripped of zddp (zinc) and phosphores because they negatively effect emissions. These two oil additives are crucial to bearing wear and protection. I personally run Amsoil Signature Series 5w30 with a genuine Honda oil filter.

If you aren't looking to spend a lot of money you will be just fine running any other synthetic or non-synthetic oil. Just make sure you change your oil religiously like others have already stated. I would recommend a 3,000 mile interval instead of a 5,000 mile interval if doing so.

Whatever "synthetic" is on sale... Then every 20k get it analyzed.
