How good was your repair?

Unfortunately 2 weeks ago, my wife was rearended in her NBP Si Coupe.

The other fella had insurance, so we took it to Honda, and they use Service King for their repairs.

We had a call yesterday telling us that it was ready for pick up.

We go to collect it, and as they pull it round, it looks really nice, good job on fit and finish of the car. Color looks good too, matches nicely.

Well we get closer and there are dull patches in the paint, like it was sanded and then clearcoated, so it is shiny, but under the clearcoat it's dull. Other areas have swirl marks in them from when they washed the car with a 'dirty' mit... something we'd never do... so they weren't there before hand.

And the killer is, there are scratches on the roof that weren't there when we took it in.

After a lot of arguing, and calls to the manager, they are going to sort it all.

I was told I was the first person to look under the car after a wreck repair. And also I was the most picky customer they have had to deal with!!!

The car was in 'new' condition pre-wreck - they even commented on it after the wreck when they took it in, AND the wreck wasn't our fault, so we want the car back to as close a condition as it was pre-wreck (I know it can never be 100%).

Sounds like there have been and amount of wrecks on here with Si's and wanted to hear the experience of other peoples repairs. Maybe I am being too picky?

I just love both our Si's and look after them as we are keeping them for the longhaul.

You have to be picky in this situation. Everyone is looking out for themselves these days. In the end, it's you that will be losing money on the car due to the repair. They definitely should fix the scratches on your roof.

The next time you need body work done, check out the reputation of the shop. Search the BBB website for complaints and ask around.

You did absolutely nothing wrong.

I would've done the exact same thing. But let me tell you something, if the dealership ever, ever told me what they told you, about you being the pickiest customer ever, I would've been arrested for assault charges, more than likely.

They were put in charge of taking care of your vehicles damage. Not repairing the obvious damage and causing more. They did a half ass job on the paint (much like Honda itself did), and they added scratches on the roof (I hear a lot of people say the dealerships do that...how is that possible?).

Also, I let my Honda dealership know they are not, under any circumstances, to wash my car by hand or take it through a car wash that has bristles. So far, they've obliged, even though they put the wrong kind of oil in my car.

You've done nothing wrong, and I commend you for your perserverence. Let us know how it turns out.

Service King have a great reputation here in DFW, so I didn't have a problem with them.

I know it's my right to be picky, and I certainly am going to be!
Just want to make sure that when I go to clean the car after I get it back I don't keep finding 'surprises'...

This is what happened to her.

New trunk, bumper, both tail lights, the whole rear structural panel was replaced, the tail light supports had to be repaired, and because of that they had to paint and clear down the sides of the car.

So frustrating when it wasn't my wife's fault at all.

I'm surprised they washed your car at all.

That NHBP looks like sex.

Told you we look after them! :)

Shame it had to look like that. It looks better now, and shiny - apart from those dull areas in the paint.

Hopefully they will sort it out this time.

a repair shop did something to that extent to my 240sx about 6 years ago. The paint was great but about 1/4 of the car was painted a completely different color. I called my insurance and told them about it. They had the claims guy come out and they said they wouldnt pay them unless the car was in like-new condition.

Well here she is, we finally got her back on Friday... still not 100% perfect, but about 98% or so... I'll wait for the paint to cure and then attack it *cupra* style and get her back to how she should be.

BEFORE

AFTER

And the girls finally get to check each other out... mine's the GG, my wife's is the NBP.

Disclaimer: Sorry for the cack images... it's been overcast for ages here in Texas and freezin cold, but I was so excited to get some pics... yada yada yada...

i have been in a few recks, none of wich were my fault nor were they in my si but, from my experience sterling autobody is the best shop to go to. the only downside is now they have changed their policy and you can only get work there if you or the person that hit you has allstate, seeing that it is an allstate owned shop.
just talk to steve

Over this weekend at a party, I had a coworker back his truck in and scraped his exhaust down the lower part of my bumper. Nice 3' (foot) long chewed up scrape. I washed it and looked a little closer. Not to the fault of his negligence, I noticed something else. I can stick just the tip of my finger in between the left side of the trunk lid, just to the left of the civic badge. On the right side, just to the right of the Si badge, my finger goes in much deeper. My question is to you guys, do you notice any problems with fitment of the panels on your Civ's?

I can post pics of what I mean if you are interested. I am taking the car in Wednesday to get the tranny looked at (making whining noise in 4th) and get the bumper looked at. Not at my expense!!!
Any input would be appreciated, didn't want to start another thread on this.

BTW Cupra, cars look good!

Below pics were when I came home, now you see why I washed it!

Man, that sucks, sorry to hear about that.

So do you think that he hit your trunk too (can't tell from that pic).
Both of our trunks have an even spacing so it doesn't look odd at all.

Hope you get it all sorted out.

Good luck!

The trunk wasn't hit anywhere. I've heard of people talking about fitment of their panels and just wondered if you guys had any issues with it or the hood spacing. I'll post a pic soon of the spacing on my trunk. Until then, it's time to get a quote on the damage.

Call your insurance company, let them know whats going on. Ask if they can get a DOI (inspection after repair). After you do that call their insurance company and ask the same. If you do this, in this order. Be Calm, you have your car back right.

I do auto claims.

mann not a new si

that is straight up crap. I had to have my old 2000 civic in a shop cause some jackA** rear ended me. The experience was less than great. I ended up getting screwed but I think when you are dealing with insurance companies that is how it is. I had the civic stolen last month and trust me they are f*ckin me over left and right. Might as well just bend over for them.

Best of luck to you.

I took it to Huggins Honda in North Richland Hills.
They however use Service King as their designated repair place.

The car is looking ok now, just need to try and get rid of the rubbing compound dust they use that's all over the inside of the car. That is a pain to remove. Oh and the new paint smell... bleargh...

Did you not see page 2 I have the car back now and it looks ok... patience was a virtue... :)

It'll take a few 'going overs' to get it how I want it, but it's a decent enough job 2nd time round.
