Frankly, Tom, until you have a tool and can accurately measure your actions as they relate to your vehicles operation (like those of use with scangauges can) your opinion is just that, an opinion. Its been done, it continues to be done. I, and others here, have recorded high 30s tanks in mixed driving. If I had the opportunity (and the patience) to run through a full tank on a flat stretch at 50mph in 6th gear, mid 40s is what the car averages under those conditions. The tool confirms this and, properly calibrated, is accurate within 2%.
Without a tool to measure your performance against, your personal habits, whether you consider them to be 'hard' or not, are not being measured against a live return of data to show 'exactly' how your driving habits affect the MPG performance of your vehicle. If you consider this an exercise in 'hypermiling' it may make more sense. You are not typically going to drive in the manner that will absolutely maximize your mileage. As stated, driving 50mph is 6th gear from point A to point B would likely drive you mad, however, that MPG is not only possible, but is accurately measurable, if you can take the tedium. Visit a site that has hypermiling participants, most are using some form of scan tool to use live data to absolutely maximize MPG by driving in very abnormal driving manners. I've done 37mpg going back and forth to California (which has uneven terrain between here and there) measured on the scanguage, confirmed on the actual miles to gallons calculation. 60mph cruise setting. Did I particularly like adding an extra hour to my drive by driving that slow? No, but I wanted to see what kind of mileage I could get by utilizing the data from the SG. On the other hand, my input, and the others with SG's input IS, at the end of the day, anecdotal, and therefore subject to suspicion. I get $1 from the maker for each SG sold Really...None of this is a matter of bragging as, frankly, driving in a manner to actually get that kind of milage is, well, a bit perverse, annoying to other drivers, and certainly not what this car is meant for. Choosing to actually conduct such experimentation probably requires a certain amount of lunacy on our parts. |

Actually, the scangauge is a 'magic' tool (like the 'vortex' and other such ...interesting... inventions) that somehow mystically increases MPG through manipulation of physical laws
![]() . . . . And adds 20HP if you use the 'green' LED, 25 HP is you use 'neon' orange. The 5HP sticker is optional. |

Averaging 29mpg over the first 1100 miles in my Si sedan. Mostly all hilly country commute. Some stop&go traffic, lights along US routes. 40 miles each way to work and takes just about 55 minutes. Plenty of opportunities to red-line and hit VTEC going from light-to-light. Fairly aggressive through a coupla traffic circles and such.
My first tank was 26mpg, and that's the lowest I've gotten. Dropped the K&N in before my last fillup, and no seeming impact on mileage. Same 29.1ish as always. |

Just part of the on-going experimentation:
Made another trip to Pahrump this weekend from Vegas. Filled before leaving. Reset trip. 112 miles round trip + 10 miles in town driving in Pahrump. 2500' elevation change at the beginning of the trip (Potosi / Sheep range is the name I believe) Filled upon return to Vegas. For all but the city portion and 'mountain climb' set cruise to 55mph (using 6th gear), kept it as reasonable as possible on the climb. 37.5mpg per manual calculation (trip/gal). 38.1mpg per SG. (1.6% variance) I'll be driving out to Mesquite in a few weekends and will try the same on that trip (no hills or major elevation changes). I expect over 40mpg as long as there are no traffic snarls on the I15 for the 15-20 miles through the center of Vegas. That could kill it. (Yes, I drove other drivers nuts with my slow speeds) |

Updating the running averages
With ~50 more responses, 295 poll responses currently logged (as of 9:30 a.m. PDT, 4/19/07) using a weighted average of all of the respondents and the mid-point for each poll category, the current weighted average of all responses is: 25.7 MPG for all Si logged replies. This continues to be consistent from earlier averages. |

07' si sedan, 2600 miles. over 442.6 miles, 19.253 gal. = to 22.988 mpg.
over 200 miles were just highway, cruise 60-65mph. i call b.s. on all you that claim 30+ mpg. i work for honda, and there is nothing wrong with my car. drive hard, or drive like grandma, i get 21-22 mpg. very disappointed. |

Wave your BS flag for all you are worth. Get a reliable SG of some form, adjust your driving style based on the statistical feedback from the live data feed, and you WILL get better results. That said, if you DONT want to drive at 52mph in 6th gear, don't bother. Getting very high mpg in the Si (30+) calls for very restrained (or incredibly boring if you are really trying for ultra mpg) driving...which most SI owners are NOT going to have enough restraint to pull off. Since you are in TX, if you can take the boredom it is easily verified. Fill, find flat road, set cruise at 52mph in 6th gear and run the tank out. Check back then with your 'BS flag'... If the point of your post is 'drive hard' then you will NEVER see high MPG, which this car is very capable of, dolt. |

I never took a long trip on the highway with mine so my mileage is based on mostly city and stop and go driving to work on the highway which is worse than city traffic and I am getting very consistantly 26mpg. Not great but I am happy with that and didn't expect much more. If you work at Honda have them check it out. Maybe you need your injectors cleaned or the spark plugs changed or something. |
