Hmm, that's funny you are getting the same Gas mileage as my Hummer H2 My Brothers 94 Grand Marquis with 4.6l V-8 gets 20 mpg average.
I guess I know what car I will never buy

You are figuring the MPG wrong. You need to fill-up, drive it (at least 100+ miles), write down how far you went, fill-up again, then divide how far you went by the last fill-up (not the first). And do this 3 or more times to get a better estimate.

Are you kidding? I am doing mostly City driving and am getting 25.7 mpg consistantly. Worst I have ever gotten was 24.3 and that was when I first got the car. I never took a long trip on the highway but I would think I could easily get 30 mpg highway.

If you are getting only 18pmg city or otherwise there is something wrong with your car. Even if you rev the crap out of it and don't shift past 4th gear you should still be getting at least 21 or more mpg city. If not I would take it back and have it checked.

hell no im not kidding why would i be... how are you calculating this and more importantly how are you driving and how do you know somethings wrong with his car... ive had three new cars in the past year and a half and my mpg has always been a bit lower than what is being claimed online... if anything i think there is something wrong with honesty online, sorry but thats what i think.

Now we are talking about the Civic Si, correct!? And you are saying that you are only getting 18mpg city? Now, I don't know about you but that does seem a little low to me. I agree sometimes you can't go by the sticker and I too had several different cars that were below the advertised mileage. For instance my wife's Grand Cherokee with the standard V-8 was advertised as 17 City and 20 Highway. She is getting about 12mpg city and about 17 mpg highway. I had a Dodge Charger Daytona which I got rid off because of the lousy gas mileage. I think Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep always is too optimistic on their stickers. My Ford Mustang was right on the money and the Golf GTI I had actually got a couple of mpg better than sticker. This Honda Si is my first Honda "CAR", I have had several Honda Motorcycles and still have a 1800 VTX C which is a great bike and that's why I thought give Honda Cars a try. So far I like the little Si and it was right on the money as far as advertised gas mileage goes. It has pretty much stayed the same over 9 months that I have owned it. The first time I have checked mileage. It was right at 24.3 mpg then after that it pretty much stayed in the 25.3-25.6 mpg range. Now that is mostly city driving and some rush hour highway stop and go which is worse than any of the city driving I do. I did a few mods like Intake and exhaust etc. which didn't really effect the mileage very much but now that I have almost 9000 miles on the car it is getting around 25.8 - 26.4 mpg pretty consistantly no matter if I get on it a few times or if I drive like a grandpa. I am not overly hard on the car and just drive it the way I feel it should be driven.
I don't hit VTEC every single day but on other days I have hit it several times.
It just depends on the driving situation and my mood.

I never have taken a long trip on the highway but I would estimate that it should get at the very least about 28-30 mpg highway. I don't think it will get much more to be honest.
Heck, I don't have any reason to lie to you about my gas mileage. I have calculated gas mileage in my vehicles for a very long time and know how to do it the proper way. So, all I am saying if you are getting 18mpg I would take the car to Honda and have them put it on a diagnostic and see if the ignition if working properly or if the injectors might be clogged.
Personally, if I would get that lousy of a mileage in a 4 cylinder car i would have it looked at or sell the damn thing. My brother has an old Mercury Marquis with a 4.6 V-8 and it gets 20mpg average so I know your car can do better than 18mpg. But that's just me, maybe you are perfectly happy getting that kind of mileage in your Civic.

Oh, Sorry I thought someone said they are getting 18mpg. I guess that wasn't you. Do you have an Si and what is your mileage?
I think the norm is about 24-26 City and about 28-32 Highway

3rd fill-up since I bought the car and I've gotten 30 MPG each time.

Mixed highway/city driving and hit VTEC numerous times.[]

Overall mileage between the two was a disappointing 21.4 MPG. I'm hoping to improve that as the engine breaks in and by being a little more careful in normal commuting and errand-running.

You must have a freak on your hands since at best at all highway driving the Si is only rated at 30mpg. So unless your mix is about 85/15 than you may have a very unusual engine or they put the R18 engine in your car by mistake

I have almost 9000 miles on my car now and "breaking it in" did not change my gas mileage at all. I am still getting about 25.6 mpg average with mostly city driving and stop and go Highway miles so about 90 city/10 highway. I don't think it changes all that much over the miles.

My city driving is 28-29mpg. Been very consistent for the past like four months. I do hit redline once in awhile.

I guess the club for over 30 mpg is small because I'm averaging over 30 in mix driving. I have 5k on the car but I really dont drive it hard as much. I even used regular gas on the car periodically and it ran fine.

Just a reference: As those who own and use a Scangauge know, it is VERY possible to get well over 30MPG with the Si in mixed driving, IF, IF, IF, you are aware of your acceleration patterns, gear to speed mixes, and you have a great deal of patience. Frankly, a flat length of road in TX or OK running 50 MPH in 6th gear (using Cruise control) will yield a mid-40MPG average.

That said, actually surviving the experience of driving in such an octogenarian manner will probably cause an aneurysm.

I hate to say it but I doubt that very much. I am not very hard on my motor and have done anything possible to get the best possible mileage out of my car and there is no way I will ever get 40mpg out of the Si and
I doubt that anyone else will. Not going to happen.
