I have kept pretty accurate tracking of my 07 Si for almost 3600 miles now and am averaging 28.64 mpg. I do mostly highway but there is bumper to bumper occasionally on the way to work and always a 5-10 min. sit in City traffic to and from. I do NOT attempt to baby or beat on the car to one extreme or the other. I drive the way I want to and dont worry about the mileage. I usually hit up TEC 2-3 times/trip to and from work which is about 64 miles round trip. Always fill up at the same BP pump.

High teens to very low 20s appears to be about average for those that are heavy on the v-tec use. From this thread, the other 'gas' thread, and several rants from unhappy young drivers who admit to a lot of v-tec. So don't feel bad, its pretty 'normal'.

I average about 25-28 MPG with a good mix of city and highway driving. My car had its very first road trip last week. With 4 people, AC and a cruising speed of 70 mph, I got 34 MPG. Keep in mind, the car only has only 3000 miles on it with the factory break in oil.

That doesn't sound right, especially when you say that you're mostly on the highway. More than 50% of the votes are from 25 - 30 MPG. Are you VTECing a lot when you're not on the highway? What's your average speed on the highway? Mileage?

Yeah, that sounds pretty poor for mostly highway driving. Perhaps you'll get better mileage after your first oil change, assuming you haven't done it yet.

Either there is something terribly wrong with your car or you really don't know how to drive.I am a spirited driver but the worst gas mileag I have ever gotten with this car is 25mpg and that was in the very beginning. Now I am getting a very consistant 28.1 mpg which is mostly city and some stop and go rush hour highway travel. I am sure that 30+ is quite possible if driving more Highway. |

Oh boy, here we go again.
30+ is not only possible, it is done weekly by members who like to play around with scan tools and driving in the 'sweet' spot for fuel delivery on the HWY. Go back a few pages and take a look at scantool HWY mpg analysis at given MPH points. Again, this assumes you are not a 'nervous' HWY driver, use cruise Control to manage fuel delivery, drive CONSISTENTLY (no speeding up, slowing down, skittish lane changes, passing, etc.)...just put it at a certain speed and leave it alone. If you can survive the boredom the results are actually quite astonishing. |

First tank of gas drained with 30/70 mix of city/highway and got 322 miles on 10.9 gallons (29.5 mpg). I was not overly nice with my car breaking it in either these first 300+ miles. We'll see how it does after a few more tanks, but so far so good.

At the next fill up, record how many gallons you pumped and the miles on your trip meter. Do NOT overfill. Calculate as follows: Miles driven / Gallons filled. Record the result. Then reset your trip meter and start over again. |

I have averaged just over 28mpg for my first 5,000 miles in a 2007 Si. And I do NOT try to hit the sweet spot....or avoid lane changes or accelleration/decelleration. I dont know any idea how you guys can find enough open road to stay in VTEC and get these 20mpg tanks.....I drive normally and ocassionally beat it up. It sounds like something is seriously wrong with your car, you are calculating the mileage wrong or you simply do not shift until you get to redline all the time. |
