i thought 2 cycle oil was to help the gas lubricate the engine? i thought i was helping.

I just poured a half a quart of normal motor oil in the tank to off-set the 2 cycle oil. ill see how it is in the morning.

wish someone would have said something before.

Tell me that you didn't put normal motor oil in the gas tank, please. If you did then you might very well have to change your user id from BLU BY U to BLU BY NUTHIN.

Question: What on earth gave you the idea that it would be okay to put oil in your gas tank?

Since I've learned that you can whore posts all day in VIP, having 7K+ posts means absolutely nothing. However, his join date is over a year and a half ago, so I think he is joking.

Do the following to calculate your MPG at each fill:

(1) At your next fill, reset the trip Odometer. (You cannot calculate your MPG at this fill, but you need to get your ODO reset to start the process)

(2) At the NEXT fill (following the one above), record the number of miles on the trip odometer and the gallons you pumped.

(3) Reset the trip Odometer.

(4) Take the miles you recorded from the trip ODO and divide that by the number of gallons filled. (MILES/GALLONS) this will equal your MPG. For example, if you travelled 280 miles and pumped 11.2 gallons of gas, that would be 25.0 MPG. (280/11.2=25.0MPG)

(5) Repeat this at each fill.

Octane ?

Sorry if this has been addressed. The manual says regular 87 octane for the non-si models. However in Colorado our regular is 85 octane, and 87 is the mid-grade. I also own a Yamaha V-star and this question gets asked over and over on that forum as well. From what I understand from that forum is that because of our altitude the 85 is the same as 87 for people in lower altitudes. I don't know all the technical facts, just want to know if I should run the 87 or stick with the 85?

I just passed 1100 miles on my 09 EX and I'm about to finish my second tank of 400 miles. The first tank of gas was the break in and I got roughly about 350 from it. Since most of my driving is in gridlock and highway during the commute, I think the fuel consumption is phenomenal.

Only getting 18.149 miles to the gallon!

219.6 miles on 12.1 gallons...about 64 of them were highway.

My co-worker has a Lincoln Navigator that is getting about the same! Ouch....
