No, I let it click once and I'm done, I've had bad experience in topping off tanks.. Did that in my dad's saab once and the gas wound up shooting back out all over me within 2 seconds.

I noticed on my last tank of gas, the first bar didn't disappear until 45.x miles. The second one was gone at 53.x miles, and then the third was gone at 78.x miles. This trend continued the entire tank.. and I was doing cruise control set at 65 the entire time it happened. Each bar varied substantially from the last.

SO what's the point in having a fuel gauge if it's just going to jump around unpredictably? I mean I could have 5 bars left, but what does that mean if they're all gone within 5 miles?
Same thing happened to me , the first bar didnt go away untill about 60 miles. I though something was wrong... But, then the second one went away at around 75.

The actual mechanism that measures how much fuel is in your fuel tank is the same as it ever was. Its always most accurate around the middle. The only difference with our new Civic's is the way you read the fuel gauge. Its digital instead of analog.(needle) Like I said the mechanism in the fuel tank is still the same like the previous years.

the difference in how much the bars go down is due to an irreglar shape of the gas tank...if it was a perfect rectangle, each bar would be "worth" teh same about of gas....but since the tank is probobly wider at the top and moe narrow at the bottom....like a v-shape( not exactly, but just as an example), it takes longer for the first half of the tank to be used....and as it gets lower it get progressivly quicker to use the gas at that "level" of the tank.

I do agree that its wrong.... I've driven on completely empty (no bars) for 50km and this happens regularly (though I don't try it).

Btw, merged with the gas thread. I suggest read the rest of this thread hehe lots of issues discussed here.

My FA5 usually has 1.5 to 2 gallons left in the tank after the bars disappear.

Well I've had my car for about 2 months. I've used 93 either from BP, or Sunoco, or Exxon (only if that's the last resort). I get around 300-340 to a tank.

Biodiesel. Its all about biodiesel. A few high pressur hoses, glowplug and a high pressure gasket and you're on your way.

Gas Gauge not Accurate

I was driving home the other day from a friends house with 1 bar left in my civic si. I have filled up with 1 bar left before and saw that I still had about 2 gallons left in the tank. It was only about a 10 mile drive so I drove home to gas it up rather than do it by his house. Right before I pulled in the gas station my last bar went out. The gas gauge had no bars, and looked as if the car was bone dry and running on fumes. However, when I filled my tank up, it only took 11.9 gallons. There was still 1.3 gallons left in the tank, but the gauge showed that it was completely empty! Honda engineers had the ability to made the gas gauge accurate since it is digital rather than the normal analog, but they still didn't do it. When there are no bars left the tank should be empty, or have less that half a gallon in it at least. Sorry for ranting, but that small things like that piss me off. I feel the engineers that worked on the gas gauge half assed it. Wish we had a gauge that showed the gallons left in the car rather than bars....

They designed it that way so you DON'T run out of gas. Granted it is supposed to be empty when there are no bars left, but they designed it that way to avoid problems for their customers. For the person that wants to push it down to the last ounce of gas. I prefer it that way because I have ran out of gas once in one of my old cars, and that was one too many times.

I respect your right to rant, but this seems particularly silly.
All cars are different. I recently took my parents Landrover on a road trip. The gauge got down to almost the bottom, and the light came on. My mom thought I better pull over right away to fill it up. I told her to relax, there was plenty left in the tank to get us home. Now, on fancier cars, there is this thing called DTE... its a button that lets you know how many KM (or miles) until you hit absolute empty.
Now, you/I own a Civic, you should just know, oh the light came on, I'm almost empty, gotta fill up soon. Once you've had the car for a while, you can usually gauge how much gas/miles you have left.

So the CN version of this is: Buy a luxury vehicle with the DTE feature

So because Honda made a safe guard against people running out of gas; thats a problem?

I think this is too silly a complaint to really be angry about. Like everyone said, you can almost tell how much gas there is in the car anyway after a while. I always fill up when there's three bars left. Why risk making the fuel pump work so hard?

you still have a little bit of gas left when you have zero bars left. i wouldn't say its inaccurate i would say its smart. i've driven close to 60 miles after i had no bars left because i couldnt find a gas station.
