Do some math. . . lets say you put 20,000 miles on your car in a year (high), minimum miles per gallon for Si is stated at 23. 20,000/23 = 869.565 gallons per year. With current gas prices of approximately 2.80 for regular, it would cost you $2434.782 (2.8*869.565) per year paying for regular gas (minimum octane). Now, paying for premium (91) is usually $.10 more, so 2.9*869.565 would be $2521.985 per year for the Si driving on 91 octane gas at a price of $2.9. Only $87.203 higher!!! If you just paid $21,000+ for your car, I think you can afford about 90 bucks more per year to pay for premium fuel. Even if gas prices soar, the price you pay for premium sure wont go up exponentially. if you are concerned about paying ~$88 more per year on gas, go to www.fueleconomy.gov and find yourself a more fuel efficient car.
Which was my point. If you purchased a $20,000 car, you should've known ahead of time whether you'd be able to purchase the required gas or not. People are ACTING as if they're gonna go bankrupt over it.

Gas price gouging blows....

New Gas Question

So I was watching the news last night and saw that many gas stations had gas shortages...ok, thats nothing new...but what I heard next was..."interesting". There were shortages because there is a new mixture of gas on the market and they were having trouble switching it out for the old mixture. New mixture has more ethanol I heard the news say. Does anyone know if this will affect anything (hp, torque, ect)??? Thanks.

they are just switching from the "winter blend" to the "summer blend" of gas. Contains a different mixture from season to season - causes gas prices to go up. No real changes in hp/whatever.

I also saw that this was the reason prices are so high, but then I thought to myself...why is diesel as much as regular fuel... Doesn't make sense.

I was watching the news last night and saw a report about people out here in L.A. actually pawning their stuff to pay for gas. Man, I just cant imagine what it's like for the people who are acutally struggling.

Ok, i need to know? Should I go see the dealer on this??

It is my first car so im a little nutty with it...

1st tank 8.2L/100km
2nd tank 8.8L/100km
3rd tank 11L/100km ?????

why is my tank so much worse? this roughly translates into around 500km on the first two and barely 400 on the 3rd. Anyone eslse experiencing a drastic decrease? Argh! help?

Hey no hard feelings taken , i like honest answers. After doing the quick math.......why not just use 91 or up. Thanks for the input! Much appreciated.

nope no lower octane. it'll knock and that could lead to detination. Not all together common but it could happen.

I had a 1990 T-Bird Supercoupe (supercharged) and i had to run premium in that also. Low octane gas would fire (ignite) prematurley due to high boost (psi) conditions. I'm assuming this is the same as the civic only just with higher compression ratio?

I just put that ethanol blend stuff in my car, and I dont know if I am tripping, but it feels like the car is a littl slugish to me. I noticed it feeling slugish before I remembered that I had put ethanol blend in it. I thought that I had f@#$ed my engine up, but I am going to run it down and top her off with normal premium gas.

You get a little less mpg with the ethenol blend but I hear its good at keeping hte engine clean of contaniments.

Back to the pricing. Its awful how the gas execs can live with themselves. They retire and get hundreds of millions of dollars.....

Oh and they have been posting about 10,000,000,000 in profits.... per quarter.... so they will make about 40,000,000,000 in a year... give or take a few billion.

Oh and they arent making any money, hahahha according to them

yea i guess bush's great idea to relieve gas inflation is to take from our own reserve, and to stop all environmental acts against oil refineries so they can produce oil cheaper. anyways politics is a very sensitive subject and personally i dont want to get into it with anyone on this site. there are so many mixed feelings out there lets all just hope the prices go down a tad before summer commuting starts and they go up even more.
