Problem with exhaust

I was driving, and all of a sudden felt like i lost power and a terrible exhaust note came out. Put the car on jacks and saw thisProblem with exhaust-img00002.jpg

Wondering what is the best thing to do? This is right after headers and before the cat. I took it to honda to see maybe they would warrant it (doubt it) but its seems like a defect in the weld to me. If they come back telling me a crazy price for a new cat. Im seriously contemplating taking the cat off and bolting on something else. Rather spend money on an exhaust than replace a cat. open to all suggestions

Or maybe a RH would be best unless you like the restrictive OEM exhaust manifold?

Considering you have an 8 year/80,000 mile warranty on the cat....

There could be a number of reasons why he's not modding the car currently.

^^^Definitely call them out on this before anything else. Why pay for anything if you don't have to?

OP: Depending on your plans for the car and your cashflow, it's safe to say the majority of us will tell you to get a race header then add an aftermarket exhaust as funds allow. If for whatever reason you're not modding the car all that much you have a few options. The first is to keep combing the for sale section here, and possibly on Ebay for an OEM cat. Your second option is to comb the for sale section/Ebay for a Random Tech high flow cat. Of course you could always buy that part brand new if wanted to. Even if you paid full price for the Random Tech hfc, I'm betting it's still cheaper than a brand new OEM cat.

talked honda and the 8 year warranty is only for ''emission related problems" which they said my car doesnt have, I think it does because the exhaust is not even flowing into the cat. ooh and they wanted to charge me close to $1400, and they said the car it self cost $1000 which is bull****, so the car is sitting in my garage now

I would call HOA tomorrow & talk to them.

The price is right for the new cat from the stealership.

That's complete BS. How could it not be an emissions related problem when the ehaust isn't going through the cat? I'm with 02civicsi on this one. I'd call Honda of America tomorrow and have them open a case on this issue. Know this going in though that dealing with HOA is a complete pain in the ass from what I understand. Good luck, and keep us updated with what's going on.

I know you said you wanted to make mods. Is your car stock or do you have anything at all done to the car? Just wondering if they could make a case for you voiding your warranty.

If they won't stand behind it, no way would I buy the Honda part and have Honda do the work. I'd get a thermal research high flow cat and have a local shop install it.

I took it to a friend of a friend who has his own shop. He welded it right up for in about 30 min, and for a 6 pack of sam adams. Sure as hell beats 1400 for reinstalling a stock setup.

I dont have any mods what so ever, but the way it came out seems to be good for now. Ill post a pic tomorrow when i have time to get under the car, forgot to earlier.

As with dealing with HOA, It almost not worth the time or effort. If this fix doesnt last ill look into RH, I think the RH Skunk2 are awesome
