Si as a daily driver

I am on the precipice of trading an 06EX-AT Coupe for an Si Sedan. The dealer is giving me 17k for the EX and I'm very close to closing the deal. The difference makes up for the cost in equivalent upgrades, I think it's a decent deal and I'm pretty sure it won't get any better.

Will the Si be a good daily driver or will I be angry bastage after 6 months of stop and go? I was sitting in rush hour traffic this morning (in the EX) thinking to myself, "I think I'm glad I don't have to shift through all these gears a hundred times just to get to work". I really would like the power out on the open road and the handling is excellent on the curveys but is it worth it? This is the one thing holding me back.

Your input is appreciated.

Thanks,

Monty

I have a manual r18. Regardless of the engine, i hate sitting in traffic and shifting in and out of gear.
If your in traffic ALL the time, this won't be fun and no it doesn't get any better. You might get used to it more, but it will always be a pain in the @ss.

with that said, i think it's worth getting the SI.lol
I know i just contradicted myself but there will be times when you wish you had an SI to zip through the gears.

Depending on where i move in the next year, personally i'm going for the SI.

I say do it, and 17k is great for a trade-in

I had a 06 ex which I used for daily driving. I now have a 06 SI I drive 130 miles per day in. I LOVE IT. It makes the commute tolerable. DO It...

My Si is my daily driver. I say go for it if the money is right on the trade in!

The only time I did not like driving the Si in traffic was when it was locked up. if your are rolling and do not have to engage/disengage/hold in the clutch all the time you should be fine.

you should be fine. if the commute worries you, then take into account how long the commute is and how much deadlock you have. if its a lot, then consider keeping the EX. but if you ask me, if you are looking to get the Si, then don't let the "commuting" part of the decision gridlock you

I have no complaints driving mine, but I do not face daily heavy traffic. If I KNEW I was facing such traffic every day for likely years to come, I'd probably be driving an automatic (sadly.) But it does depend on what you personally can tolerate (shrug.)

IMO the Si is worth the pain of rush hour traffic...Think of all the driving that you will do on open roads during non-rush hours...that alone should make you buy it...but if you really hate driving during rush hour, I would recommend getting to work later and leaving later...it works for me but my employer tolerates me being late all the time...

...or you can keep the automatic for everyday traffic use and get the si for weekends.

I have no problems; sometimes it gets annoying starting and going with the 6 speed gear box, but then you find an open road or an on ramp and life gets better :).

That, and you can rest assured that while you may be suffering from having to shift through a great gearbox, your econobox looks infininately better than almost anything else on the road :).

If shifting is a chore to you, stick with your automatic.
Even if heavy traffic, I LOVE driving my SI...

Who knows - honda may come out with an auto SI. They have been talking about a 4 door SI for years, and now it has happened...

I just read this again, and realized it sounded down.
What I meant was, get the SI, shifting will definitely not be a chore. In fact, it will put a smile on your face every time you do...

I have 40 miles of driving to and from work and 80% is in traffic and 20% Im standing still on the highway. I dont have a problem with all the shifting I do. I look forward to it. Plus with the rev happy engine and droping down a gear helps move around all the slow a$$ people.

I treat the commute as a small race, dodging around cars when I can.

+1 That's why I do too! The only bad time is when you are in gridlock and it is on and off the clutch, stop and go, it gets to be a little tedious but it is worth it in the end... People look at me funny when I am sittign there revving the engine bit, getting pumped up for when I get to go again...

When I got my Si, it was my first manual transmission car and, at the time, I worked for Domino's as a delivery driver in the UTC area of San Diego (which is always congested no matter what time of the day). At first I was annoyed sitting in bumper to bumper traffic, especially since I was still learning to perfect driving a manual, but honestly, you get used to it really fast once you start to "become one with your Si." Trust me, I took my chances and haven't looked back since!

I traded in my 2003 Dodge Ram Quad Cab with the HEMI along with my nice boat. I did it because I was moving to Dallas/Fort Worth area and I knew I was going to have a good drive to and from work. It was going to be at least twice as far. I was just going to get a cheep Honda Civic. I believed the cars had a good rep. Well when I went inside they had one that looked a little different. They explained and I drove it then bought it. Not bad MPG and it makes getting in and out of traffic much eaiser. Parking is not as bad also. The car is what I would call a fast pace car to drive. It helps me get through traffic. I don't usually get caught in stand still traffic so it has not been to bad on me even with a 84 mile round trip to work every day. People here just don't let you over and I have to merge several times so this car helps and it gets a lot better than 15 MPG. The quality of the car seems to be great and I hope it will serve me for the next several years with little to no repairs. If you think the shifting will be such a big deal you might be able to rent a standard car and drive it to and from work for a few days and see how it is. The dealer might have one they could rent you. I like driving mine but it is a fast pace high energy car that might not be for everyone. My car seems like it drives best balls to the wall all the time.

The SI can cruise at 3mph in first gear without having to press on the accelerator pedal. This is really nice in traffic IMO.
