I will tell you this much...
I have a scion tC (limited release, dealer options etc etc.) Paid 22k at the dealer for it out the door, bought about 5k worth of aftermarket turbo non sense, blew the engine, bought a new engine, replaced it, sold the car and now I am thinking about buying the Si... the tC was fun and it is an awesome looking car especially with the body work I did...but it was lacking. The only thing to do was boost it and I failed. I am getting out of it and moving on. Either the SI or the V6 Altima SE...the altima is expensive though seeing as how I can get the SI for about 19k new... We will see what happens. Hats off to tC and Si owners who have boosted well. You don't hear many stories of the people who blew their engine to kingdom come. |

'08 tC=Cool: dual sunroof, OEM Navi is more accurate than Honda OEM & plays DVDs, OEM wheels are unfinished polished aluminum, tons of OEM (& aftermarket) add-ons including LED tail lights, iPod interface is perfect, projector headlights, uses regular gas, car is fairly cheap & Scion has a no haggle policy.
tC=Lame: slow, navi needs the car to be stopped to pay DVDs and enter destination data, too rounded, seat material is a so-so. Si=Cool: i-Vtech, gorgeous dual tier dashboard, reliable, 6 spd, tons of after market performance parts, good mileage, OEM navi doesn't require you to stop car to change destinations, high resale value, somewhat rarer than typical Civics, etc, LSD. Si=Lame: few OEM accessories, no LEDs in tailights, no projectors or HIDs, uses premuim gas, attracts thieves and haters, OEM wheels have paint & clearcoat that can scratch, iPod interface sucked so badly Honda removed it from the market. Honda dealers are arrogant and fight you tooth and nail for price and service. Both suck (typical of every car under 30-40K): thin paint and dent & ding if you look at them too hard. P.S. I currently own both. Last edited by DNieves; 05-06-2008 at 01:09 AM. |

Stock for stock... SI is a better car then the TC
I don't get why people are so stubborn that they have to compare apples and oranges. The SI is in a different class then the TC. The TC is more comparable to the DX, LX, EX. Now lets say you compare the TRD TC to an SI. Since TRD is not aftermarket, we can put the TRD TC in the same class as the SI, GTI, Colbalt SS, etc. The SI is still a better package then the TRD TC. With the supercharger, the TC moves to the $25k MSRP range, more or less but higher than an SI. Plus you lose like what? half your warranty? even worse gas mileage? Not worth it in my opinion if you have to upgrade to TRD parts which pushes the TC pass the SI range. Now for aftermarket turbos and sc's. If you slap one of these on, sure you might be faster than an SI. But at what expense? Lose your warranty, horrible gas mileage, not knowing when your engine will blow up, etc. If you're going to compare a aftermarket turbo/supercharged TC against a stock SI, that is just purely dumb. Like I said, apples and oranges. Take a turbo/supercharged SI and compare it to a turbo/supercharaged TC then we'll be on the same level. Last edited by My5tiC4L; 05-06-2008 at 01:08 AM. |

I think that the tC and the Si are in slightly different classes. In many cases, the Si is probably 4-5 grand more expensive, explaining the various features it has that the scion doesn't have. But then again I'm sure you can make the tC cost over 20k but then is it really worth it? Comparing an EX or LX to a tC would be more appropriate but then the standard civic and the tC are advertised to different age groups.
in direct comparison, say someone offered you one for free, I don't know why anyone would choose a tC.... unless its like haxor built or something. |

i have not even read this thread but i got to tell you guys the tC = FTL. I've own the Si Sedan a little less than 2 weeks now and I'm very satisfied inside and out. And yes I use to own a tC for the past 2 years and it is not as fast the SI. Mine was even Supercharged and I still think that the SI is faster. The tC's handling = crap also!

I test drove the SI yesterday and I was pretty impressed. Good trunk space, gets up and goes nicely, price was good, and revving it to 8k was fun =D Going from: ![]() To 2008 Obsidian Civic SI =D Odd though...we have only owned 1 honda in the family back in about 89 haha. Been all toyota since then. Time to stir the pot >D Last edited by anurok; 05-06-2008 at 12:07 PM. |
