I just drove my nephew's new Scion tC. Honestly, there's no comparison between it and my Si. They feel like they have two completely different missions in life. The word that comes to mind when talking about his car is "numb". I would say the steering is comparable to mine, but the clutch, shifter, and brakes lack precision. The shifter feels like it's almost not connected to anything unlike the rifle-bolt action of my shifter. It really feels like it was made to commute, not stir the passion of the driver. The pedals were close enough to allow for some good heel-and-toeing, but the engine was so quiet, I couldn't hear to match revs! The seats are not designed to hold you in place during cornering either. Since it was a new car, I didn't stomp the gas, but I don't think I would have been that impressed then either.

not to mention the TC is dangerous... It only has three airbags: two in the front and one for the knee on the drivers side (rarely come in handy). Trust me side curtain airbags work and help. Last accident of mine when i got t boned, it saved me from bashing my head through the window. Plus too the TC's moon roof isnt safety glass so if that thing breaks... you're gonna get CUTT UP! Not to mention the weight is quite a bit.
I test drove it twice... it wasn't impressive, the only reason i was going to get it was because it was cheaper, but on the otherhand they make it so you have to buy everything as an option such as keyless entry, security system the works. (YEAH RIGHT) Plus too their sound system sucks balls compared to ours. SI HANDS DOWN... trust me if you get the TC you'll most likely regret it in one way or another... |

Can we for a moment just think of both cars as STOCK vs. STOCK?
If this is the case, then there is no debate on who would win. Sure we can all throw in variables, such as turbos, superchargers, etc. But then we lose the point of this thread. Yes, the SI costs more. But you get more stock for stock. (More HP, 6 spd, LSD,etc.) That ladies and gents, is the bottom line. SI FTW. |

I drove a TC and it seemed very heavy for its size. I'm sure several of the available TRD modifications would dramatically improve its performance. I got the impression that TRD has more stuff available than HFP.
I landed on a FA5 and so glad I got it. The TC can't be modded to have two extra doors. Last edited by Monty; 04-23-2007 at 12:48 AM. |

I think it's a good looking car. I looked at them with the TRD supercharger when I was shopping for the SI. (family friends own a toyota dealership) At the time I was also looking at the altima v6 (not the SE-R, too expensive). Liked the scion, well built, toyota quality. But there was something so addictive about the tight suspension and high-revving nature of the SI. I was reaching for my pen to buy the altima, but at the last second I checked and found the 5 speed V6 didn't come with ABS (which they've since changed, I think). I did like the low end grunt of the v6 however. In the end, i got the SI and I found that extra torque in the form of the comptech s/c. I couldn't be happier (at least until i get my bump to attending status in 2011).
But those who say TC sucks, that's just foolish/uninformed. Caters to a different demographic, but still a solid car in its own right. |
