XM radio keeps cutting out

Sometimes when listening to XM radio, the signal will get lost depending on the area that I am in. At times, the signal will get weak and then cut back in. If I lose the signal for 3+ seconds, I can never regain the signal unless I turn the car off and and turn it back on. Is this a normal issue with the XM radio feature? Has anyone figured out how to regain the signal without having to resort to turning off/on the car to regain the signal?

I'm not sure about normal, but i have a 2007 SI sedan, with Navi, and my XM radio, a couple times a year will cut out, and it won't come back on unless i cut power to the radio, and turn it back on. I've also been getting more signal cut out this year, as compared to the last few. Maybe XM needs some more satellites up there in space. i dunno, can a satellite be overloaded? but yah, both of those happen to me too.

i have the same issue but i beleive it is the placement of the antenna. im going to put it on the outside of the car or in the front dash.

I used to have this issue as well, but then suddenly it cleared up and hasn't done it in about a year ::knocks on wood:: As far as I know I didn't do anything to clear it up, just seemed to have fixed itself.

I figured out what happens. If you give it a minute or two and just listen to just regular FM stations, then the XM will regain signal without needing to restart the car.

Glad that works for you. That never solved the problem I was having. I would just listen to FM or my iPod for the Aux input until I got to a red light or somewhere I could turn my car off real quick and turn it back on.

The exact same thing happens to me, have to turn the car off and on to get the XM working again. I live in a densely populated area too, and have never heard of any of my friends' cars having this issue with XM. It's frustrating 'cause I just got my Si 2 weeks ago...

My factory XM only cuts out if the southern sky gets blocked out by a building or if I'm driving in a tunnel. Apparently XM is supposed to have ground repeater antenna's in certain large metro areas to cut down on the loss of signal but it's not in mine. Your problem sounds antenna related and probably will require someone with knowledge to diagnose the issue.
