honda should recalibrate maintenance minder

ok i know most of you check your oil but some and most people do not.

when my maintenance minder was at like 50%/3000miles i lost quart of oil. so I filled a quart in but if i hadn't caught it then, i would have lost over 2~3 quarts over course of 5000miles(30%) which then i changed my oil and began my oil consumption test.

SO for the general public who goes by the maintenance minder, shouldn't Honda recalibrate the minder to say ADD OIL (since it's normal for honda engines(ONLY) to burn oil) or have shorter maintenance interval on SI models specifically?

When i had my EX, I never lost more than 10th of a quart ever if any at all.

point being...new engines should not burn oil.

It's not uncommon for a new engine to use a little oil during break-in. Some people just don't notice because they are used to changing their oil every 3k miles. When you extend the interval to twice that, adding oil becomes more necessary. Besides, the manual tells you to check the oil level regularly.

My Si does not seem to burn much of any oil at all. Never had to add a quart between changes and I do check it regularly. I change it at the maintenance minder intervals too.

Honda K-series are not the only engines that burn oil. See the Mazda RX8 for another worse example.

I think K-series engines burn oil at high RPMs--that's just what they do--so losing oil isn't much of a surprise. Wankel engines in RX8 intentionally burn oil by design--that's why putting synthetic oil in them are a big no-no.

Wait...why? Because you're wasting money on expensive synthetic gobbled up at high rates, or because (eek? ) synthetic is in some way bad to burn?

Synthetic oil for RX8's don't agree with the polymer seal, and excess oil gets into the combustion chamber, putting raw gas into the catalytic converter (and screwing the cat up)

As long as it's the engine burning oil--and not leaking like old British cars, that's fine. Just check the oil level and fill it up every now and then.

Just check your oil like the manual says and you will be fine. There are PLENTY of new engines that DO burn oil at the first. Its not abnormal...
