Cool Si shift light?

Hey guys, for those that have the Si. On the instrument panel with the speed, there is a dot that I think is a shift light. I haven't broken in the Si yet I still have another 100 miles to go, but is that a shift light? If so how accurate is it? I am really impressed with the 6 speed, it has a ton of power and I am not going over 5000. I love pushing corners and playing in traffic. It has a great factory suspension!

There are two 'dots' there.

-One is a red flasher that shows the security system is armed.
-The other is the shirt indicator.

Cool

thanks. Another 50 and I will test her out. We have a 1/8 mile that does a test and tune on Wed. I will hopefully let her loose then.

I thought I'd read that they have a shift light.

Man I wish I had found this site earlier. I knew I wanted an Si way back, about the time the hype got started. I just had no idea that availability would be so limited.

blue - you can still get the SI. They are supposed to be making 15k this year. Yes it is limited though - that's like 300 per state if they divided them equally around the US. The first person only got theirs like a month ago. There is plenty of time to go and buy one.

so true! I had one dealer call me at least 2 times a day, telling me the SI is in. It had a $3k markup on it, but the salesman really did call at least twice a day for about 2 weeks.

Right now, i'm on the waiting list for the first fiji blue or nighthawk black at a dealership here in socal charging msrp. no doc. fee's, no dealer add-on's. A straight $20,540.00 plus dmv and taxes. and when it comes in i'm gonna show up, be social, share some laughs, and show him the $20,340.00 i brought and tell him it's all i got.

hahah has worked for my brother and pops in the past (but more then $200 short) so i'm confident it'll work now.

isn't exactly the goal i wanted ($200 under msrp plus free summer tires) but i need a vehicle before summer time which is something that wasn't factored in before, so this is a compromise i'm willing to make.

set your goals everyone, and don't budge till you or they have met them.

It is a cool feature for the car, but.. whatever happened to doing it by ear? Maybe i'm just old fashioned or i've become too accustomed to using sound to figure things out (like with music). I've always just learned how the car sounds at certain rpms, saves a lot of time actually. no need to look at the tach or wait for the shift light, when you know your rpms, it's one less thing to worry about. so you can concentrate on the road more

Okay, its on a Saturn Redline, however, I really like the programable ladder tach. A nice red or blue biolumi ladder right next to the speedo would have been a whole lot more use than that little shift light (dammit, I actually spelled 'shirt' again).

There was a really nice biolumi tach application presented on the Speed Channel SEMA 2005 show. Too bad there is no place to put it in the Si that would not look tacky/ricy.

Cool

Alright, I played today with the vtec and wow . This car has a ton of power. Out of first the LSD yanks you back and you are gone. . I noticed the shift light and didn't have to go out of my way to seeit. It sits right where you need it. My only question is how far to go in the blinking pattern. I am sure smoenone will say listen to it. But that defeats the purpose. To be honest the engine screams. It reminds me of Need for Speed. If you can relate, the shift lights pulse and then the colors help with the shifts, giving you a boosted feeling. I had roughly 620 miles when I took it off an off-ramp onto I-95 and unleashed at a dead stop. Great car, Great power, mad-fast, alot of fun. I can't wait to start tuning.

My primary point is , does anyone know the correct function of the shift light and when to respond to it.

Thanks,
GB

The shift light is simply there to let you know your approching redline. It doesn't hurt to shift before the light comes on. I believe your suppose to shift immediatly when the light come on.

If you don't shift when the light comes on and keep on accelerating will the rev limiter kick in and slow the engine down? Not good if your running away from others

The shift light comes on (blinking) at ~7500RPM and goes solid at 8000RPM.
