LS gets first real world test

Ive been a bit anxious to give the SI's Limited Slip differential a trial run in the snow and cheyenne got its first blanket of it this evening. I "borrowed" a friends 06 EX coupe for a comparison. The roads were slick, icey and gettin to be pretty nasty. In terms of straight line acceleration, the LS hands down makes quite a big difference. Where i was spinning tires under the lightest of acceleration in his EX, the SI just motored on through with almost no wheel spin at all. I did notice that it tends to make the car want to drive more in a straight line while under throttle though, which may or may not be an issue on some turns....both tires spinning on the front equals ZERO steering. A simple reduction in throttle corrected this but it was definetly more noticable that it was in the EX.

Overall verdict is that the LS does make a decent amount of difference in the snow. Once you get past the slight difference in turning, it really works quite well. It really does help on inclines and especially from a complete stop!

you gotta know how to drive with LSD...it can be dangerous thing if not utilized right in the snow.

ex.
Dry warm road...taking a sharp turn. you WOULD step on the gas for the front end to grab and make the turn

cold slippery snow covered road, when you do that, front end loses all traction so you slide straight into the direction of the wheel before it lost traction...usually into a ditch, curve or another car

BE CAREFUL

when i saw the title i thought LS? what a Cobalt LS? lol! the common term is LSD

And I was thinking LS600h. I suppose we all read in to those things what we want to read.

Glad to hear that the LSD worked for you. (How's that for another controversial acronym!)

Good review!

Foolio_67 and I are both waiting for snow in our little hick town of Kamloops. (aren't we)

I won't be driving my Si in the snow this year. I have my JDM 87 Civic Si Sedan Mugenpowered Topaz.

Living on Long Island and getting our fair share of the white stuff I'm glad to hear to LSD can make a difference. But you're right - you need to know how to drive in snow and get the feel and limit of the cars traction. Thanks.

I was thinking someone was talking about the Saturn LSJ motor.

You threw everyone off with that title.
