Civic Interior is $*$&
Why is the 06 civic interior so cheap? Cloth seats, lack of design. The center console is so empty as well! I was loving the Si and plan on getting it, but now... *edit* im talking about the center console.
Compare: 06 Si interior to Scion tC (the tC is $17k!!!!!) ![]() ![]() Flame me if you want. |

Probably because there's nothing underneath those AC controls? The only things under the center console stack are two cubby holes and the 12V socket. I don't know how "amazing" you need it, but it serves its purpose. Besides, that one has a big, large NAVIGATION screen on it.
![]() Anyway, the TC's looks too...fiddly. The Civic's is jsut a few buttons and easy to use. Which rocks.

I agree, the civic is clean, and simple its a truly ergonomical design, the Tc seems difficult and cluttered, it makes my eyes dart around, the civic is much more compact, the shadow in that pic makes it look empty, once in the car it doesn't look that way at all.

I certainly don't want to flame, I just want to voice my opinion and reasoning on disagreeing with your statement. I honestly don't see how the scion's interior comes close to the Si. I've never been a fan of the center console as a big monolithic block of knobs surrounded in silver trim so that's probably half of why I'm attracted to the Civic's interior as well.
I really don't agree with the "lack of design" statement. The design is so out there that many reviewers talk for great lengths about the radical layout of the instruments. I think a great deal of time was spent designing the controls to be as ergonomic and natural feeling as possible. It took me a few drives to get used to everything, but now any other car I drive feels a bit archaic in comparison. The red colour is just wild in the dark, I feel like I'm operating some sort of space ship with all the illuminated controls. I also find that the layout of the center console is great, there is a cubby hole in the dash, another before the shifter, and a small one right before the amazing cupholders, behind which there is the center adjustable armrest with 12v outlet in it. The cloth material on the seats isn't the best I've ever seen, but I certainly can't complain that much about it. I probably would have preferred a perforated leather a la RSX type S, but if the cloth really bothered me that much (it doesn't) then I could have gotten one of those aftermarket leather installations. Dollar for dollar, the Civic Si is miles beyond any current competitor, IMO.

When I first saw pics of the new Civic, I wasn't digging the interior. I grew to love it soon after getting the car. The controls are simple and easy-to-reach. I love the HUD-like digital speedo and I have no trouble with the tachometer placement.

Most of the Honda interiors Ive looked at had more of a utilitarian look and feel to them. Not that they were bad, just not all gussied up with unness. items and fancy trims. I love the interior of my Si.
I looked at a TC. The interior looked and felt cheap, pretty much everywhere to me. |

And for the record, when I went to the dealership to check out the Civic for the first time I sat in an LX coupe. I ended up buying an EX sedan. |

Yeah, if anything, that's the only complaint. Shifter should be CLOSER to you, having to reach over for 5th and 6th somehow seems ungainly.
That, and Volume should have changed to the far end (so the passenger has volume control) and Folder controls should be closer to you. The steering wheel already has volume, so that's easy...and holding down the up/down control to change folders can get tedious with numerous folder CDs. But that's just really nitpicking at that point.

Well I have to say I was on the fence between a few dif cars, TC, SI, GTI, WRX and I ended up with the si because of the interior. The only quam I have with the SI interior is the pocket on the left side of the steering wheel. It serves no good purpose. They should have put a cover on it and made it a coin type tray. Ohh when I test drove the other models of civic lx and ex the door handles and moonroof felt like REALLY cheap plastic.
