Wilwood kits
I've been looking around for brake options:
This is *my* scale, I'm not a racer...all street driving, all Cali legal. This is my second car, and I'm 47 for God's sake! Yeah, I know, the reflexes are slowing by the day. 1)mild - upgrade pads only - no brainer: less dust; slightly better stopping; no warranty effect to speak of, except for rotor wear 2)mid - drilled/slotted rotors & pads - might as well: even my last VW TDI wore Zimmerman rotors, and stopped much quicker. Problems may include warping or cracking, dealers sometimes want to play warranty games. 3)plus - Wilwood aftermarket kit - slightly more complicated, as it includes the need to change brake lines, and how stable is the mounting kit? Looks fantastic, and I assume stops better. Problems might include braking system imbalance & sensitivity, poor mounting, now really married to aftermarket maintenence parts. Do I need to wonder what a Honda dealer might think. After all, if you need to stop *this* much quicker, what else are you doing to or with the car..... so.......anyone go through these thoughts as well? What did you decide to do? |

I'm thinking about my brake upgrade path as well. I'm leaning towards Powerslot cryo rotors with maybe the big brake upgrade for the front and upgraded pads and lines. You can do everything (pads, rotors, lines) for around the price of the willwood kit. This way you still use the factory calipers. |

Since I have no plans to track this car, the most I'll ever consider doing is the pads. Other than that this is another situation where i put my faith in Honda's reduce the expense and added maintenance of stepping up to the "big brake" kits. I do like the Wilwood kits though. Nice looking, I'm sure they stop you quicker.
