Oil Life % ?

Alright after 600 miles my Oil Life indicator is at 90%, is this similar to other 2006-Si owners? I've read several of the posts about Oil and they all have been very informative. 1-2 of the posters are most impressive when it comes to knowledge about motor oils. Is there an online outlet where one can puchase Amsoil and a prefered Syn-Filter? Thanx for the info.....

GWD, you're fine. It's not exactly at 90%, you're more looking at the low-middle 90% range...since Honda seemed fit to make the guage ROUND OFF instead of be accurate. Go figure.

As far as where to buy motor oil...just wait till someone else posts. :)

If you are going to change the oil when the indicator tells you, then you are wasting your money buying amsoil. I did my first oil change at 5800 miles. That was with regular oil. Do what the manual says and you can't go wrong. If you must go synthetic, Mobil 1 in the 5 quart jug at Walmart is under 22 dollars.

90% is perfectly fine. I have around 1600 miles with 70% left.

Question

I just picked up my LX Sedan yesterday (8/31), and looking through the OM today, I was surprised to find Honda does not actually list an oil change interval in miles... They only mention the oil life indicator.
Question 1: What is the Honda recommendation? 5k?
Question 2: I work in my car all day (it is my office), and I do a LOT of idling. Is the oil life indicator smart enough to consider an hour-meter or something, or does it use the odometer only?

They use an algorithm that figures in many factors including idle time. This is the same system that many manufacturers use these days. There isn't a mile schedule per say. When it is time for your first OIL change there will be a "A" in the odometer window. Your first service is OIL only and not the filter. Expect to do this service at about 5800 miles which seems to be the norm. Don't be scared.

Thanx, I am versed in Auto-Ed...hahaha..but seriously, it is my intention to use a ultra Syn oil such as amsoil..I'll do my own changes with filter. I had just wondered if other Si owners were seeing the same % at certain mileages, I did realize that the %indicator is just that a Light and not a Gauge...it doesn't take into account so many factors and is a "Guess"...this is not my first Honda or performance Vehicle, I was wondering where others might buy there oil products online to compare to what I know of....As some have stated if you are not an enthusiast and want the average use a good major brand and you can't go wrong, however it is my experience that if you push your vehicle(at the track) ;then by all means use the best available that you can afford to service any and all parts and lubricants. And as one poster stated from his experience a Ultra premium oil gave him better MPG...if you can afford syns then use them....

You can buy direct from they're webpage: www.amsoil.com
or you can locate a dealer in your area.
I believe Amsoil makes a quality product but I would still suggest using
Mobil 1. I have run nothing but that for the past few years and have had good results from it. The formulation chemist where I work has had it broke down in the lab and stands by it as a excellent product. Like another said, you can goto Wally World and get a 5 quart jug of it. I would however reccomend one of Amsoils by-pass oil filter kits.(Im running one on my other car and will put one on the Honda more than likely.)As far as a full flow oil filter gos, you could run a Mobil 1 filter or try one of Amsoils.
