First Gear Accelerating

Is it just me or does it seem like accelerating in first gear is slow even if you try to press the gas.(Slowly but would have more power if you drove another car the same way.)note. Only in first gear. Any opinions?

I noticed the same thing. I tried launching my car @ 2000RPM and it rockets off the line.

How is shifting at 4k bad? That's about where Honda RECOMMENDS you shift.

Normal driving should shift between 3 and 4k...I usually shift around 4-5k where the speed limit is 45 or more

+1.

Plus if the engineers who designed the engine didnt want you to shift 4K+ they wouldnt give you a 8000RPM redline!

I agree, the Si is not that fast in 1st gear for some reason. Second and third seem to be more impressive relative to other cars.

I usually aim for a shift at 4500 under normal driving, it takes to long getting up to speed for me if I shift at anything under 4000.

The higher RPM you are at for your 5th to 6th gear is better because below 3000RPM you wont have much power. around town I shift at around 3k

Shift when it blinks

They wouldn't have given us a shift light if it weren't meant to be used

what you are noticing is the low torque our motors have.

BS! how can you possably launch your si at 2000 rpms, thats almost at idle???? a proper launch is done at around 5000-5500 rpms feathering the throttle to control wheel spin.

First off, does your Honda have the upgraded ECU? My car was noticeably sluggish off the line with a delayed throttle response, but after the reflash it's significantly more responsive now.

As for launching RPMs, I launch at 2500. Although there's not as much power down there, it's a smooth launch where you can floor it to the red line. Don't think it's much different than feathering (the higher torque up there is cancelled out by the fact you're not applying constant throttle).

But 2-5 are pretty impressive relative to other cars.

It is indeed the low torque of our engine. Thats why most people will beat me off the line, but I will blow past them in second or third (not that I race or anything, but when you get next another fast car, you tend to do a little vroom vroom).
