ahh janizary, i'm still uber jealous. My mission is to get a nighthawk black SI w/summer tires for $200 under msrp now. I dunno how this is gonna work, but i am willing to drive 8 hours from where i am located to get it.

I am sure there is a dealer out there that will make that deal and having an 8 hour window increases the odds (unless you are in the middle of nowhere North Dakota or some such). I think you said you were in SoCal so that leaves quite a few options in Calif, AZ, NV, and UT (St. George might make a deal like that)

To ban that damn dancing bannana.

There have been a few folks at ToV claiming $500 to $1K off MSRP. I am not sure how valid that is, but somewhere out there is a dealer that will do it.

There must also be a time limit, like 'best deal in december' or Jan, etc.

Just think if you were a sales manager at Honda I bet you could get a sweeet deal. Maybe worth getting a job at the dealership and being a scumbag for a few weeks.

hahah ^ you're right!

I've called about 30 dealers up today. all within 50 miles of my area code. only three of them over the phone agreed to sell at msrp. all the others were butts about not coming off their dealer mark ups. I understand it is different in person then it is on phone (to clarify, those three dealers, told me to come in today, put down a deposit, so for sure i'd have it at msrp and nothing more).... soooooo i went to a local dealer, not a particularly good one. 4 sales men standing outside as i walk up. I ask about the new SI. blah blah blah, then i ask how much they'll charge. $3k over msrp. I told them i could get it for msrp at a couple of spots here in socal. After a minute or so of arguing that i wouldn't be able to get it at msrp, i decided i'm wasting my time and left.

best part, as i am walking away, they ask if i live in the city. i tell them yes, they tell me they can probably work out a deal for me then suuuuuuure.

I'm still sticking to my guns at $200 under msrp with summer tires thrown on free of charge. That's $400 off the total. I'm sure it wont be till mid janurary that i can see the car coming realisticly, but whatever, i want the summer tires free, and i want it for cheaper then MSRP. No doubt, dealer is still making profit, just not as much this time. I'll keep everyone updated, as i've been promised a test drive once the dealer has em here in riverside and costa mesa. Then, begins the price war!

---Colin-

Congrats to all those getting theirs right away or at a good deal. Enjoy it fellas! (and ladies?)

Glad to hear you are getting hard on those dealers, Colin, and you also, EP3Racer. As I keep saying, no one should be paying over MSRP if you are willing to drive a bit and make some calls (or both). Those dealers that are charging outrageous MPA's should not be rewarded for their pricing actions. (However, as odd as it sounds I do support our economic model, and feel they are free to charge what they like...just as you have the choice NOT to buy from them!)

The sad part is one of the three dealers here is charging a $4K+ MPA and they still have a waiting list of over 8 folks the last time I called to get a chuckle. But that dealer is 'centrally located' and probably the most well-know Honda dealer in town.

Exclamation Give me a break

I still can't fathom why anyone would be willing to pay that much over MSRP. I mean, it's a Civic for crying out loud.

They might as well go and buy a Lexus or BMW.

I would love it if those who will pay that much actually post here and say how much they screwed themselves for.

Heh, I feel that same way. Before I heard about the Si, I was shopping a wide range of 'sporty' cars for a few months (WRX LTD, RSX-S, G35C, Mustang GT, 350Z, IS250, new MX-5). Being a multiple past Honda owner the Si tickled my fancy (reminding me of my old '85 Prelude Si) and the 'bang for the buck' was impressive. Given the alternative of paying an MPA, or getting a more expensive vehicle, the choice for me would be easy...back to shopping.

One thing many folks are not considering is re-sale or depreciation. Re-sale on the Si you pay a $4K MPA on is still going to depreciate from the base $20K price...not $24K. So many folks are going to be upside down on their auto loan for a very long time. No loan? You are still not going to re-capture the additional cost and will have a $12K car in a few years. Dodge-like depreciation. (No, I am not dumping on Dodge, just depreciation on some Dodge models is not so great)

Well ya know, if ya got the money, it isn't the world. Plus you do get the car asap. if that extra time is worth it to someone, meh, let em have their fun. I, on the other hand, could never ever ever see myself paying msrp. as it is a SUGGESTED price that means i'll suggest something myself, and we'll find a middle ground somewhere. plus.. I want those damn summer tires!.. sorry, don't know where that came from.

Exclamation Stabbed in the back?

It seems South Shore Honda in Valley Stream, NY has an interesting idea...

Either no one has bothered to put a deposit down with them, or they are selling someone's Si without they're knowledge:

Right now it's at $15,600. Hmmm...I'm tempted to bid. Just think...buying a brand new si with navi for $16,000!! I'd be on the next plane to New York to make that purchase!!

I'll tell ya' what. If there was some rabid Si fan that really wanted my car for a $4K+ premium over my final price later this month, I would sell it to him without a second thought. And chuckle as I debated between my two back up cars, G35C or WRX. Heh, I should stake out the 'other' Honda dealer here charging a huge premium and see if any of the folks on the waiting list there want a quick deal, lol.
