Question Si up at Honda.

So i had taken my si up to my local dealership to get my third gear fixed, rev hang fixed, and i was leaking coolant so i asked to get that fixed as well.

My car is ready and they repaired my third gear no problem but they said my intake caused the leak so thats not under factory warranty which ok thats fine.

But they said that the rev hang is being caused by the coolant leak? Wtf.

Correct me if im wrong but i thought it had to do with updating the PGM-FI software in the ECM, as stated in the service bulliten?

I told the guy that i called this and he said that in order for the tech to move forward with the rev hang we need to fix the leak?

Is this right? or are they just being typical honda.

Thanks 8th!

Eric.

the leak doesn't have anything to do with the rev hang, you have a CAI or SRI? maybe a loose hose somewhere.

I was pretty sure that rev hang wasnt caused by a coolant leak..

but it seems to me like they arent going to do anything about the rev hang because "the coolant caused it"

and i have a AEM CAI.

They are definitely just being typical dealership mechanics IMO. IF by that one means they shoot you a load of shit just to get you to pay the clerk and walk out the door. They'll tell you anything they think if they think you'll buy to get you to do that.

That's bullshit, and you should politely tell them that they are wrong, and have to fix the rev hang under warranty. The coolant leak has nothing to do with the rev hang.

Update- Picked up my car they said that a "coolant leak" is on their check list to solving the problem so i have to fix the leak before they will fix the rev hang (which IMO seems worse. )

They said the hoses/clamps are wrong size so thats whats causing the leak. :/

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but:

When a warranty issue is fixed, that particular dealership eats the cost of the parts and labor. Or they just wright it off. The cost for parts and labor comes off that dealerships bottom line. So I think that when they try and feed you a line of crap they are trying to save themselves money. If you go to a higher volume dealer then maybe they won't be so inclined to lie.

honda of america reimburses said dealer for the set unit cost for that warranty repair.

ie: repairing item y is a $x warranty replacement.

hoa pays dealer z $x for each time they repair item y in warranty. regardless of it it actually costs the dealer $k to repair item y.

Next time just express your concerns to the service manager. He should be able to make things right and don't leave until they do.

i would have told them that the rev hang issue is caused by a crappy design, nothing else.

this is true, i went to this small little Honda dealership to get my 3rd gear fixed and they said they couldn't replicate the problem, i got to a rather big dealer, and sure enough they didn't even test it they just took the car right away, and even changed my clutch to. and gave me a rental at no cost to me at all
