Is this still in reference to the reflash that was offered back in '06-'07? Just confused as to why you waited this long and want to make sure I have the "latest and greatest" before I reflash with Hondata (I have an '08).

I'm sure that loaner hasn't seen anything under 5000 RPM except when you're at a stoplight, right? Probably an automatic, too? So instead of you get

Well I had my Civic in the dealership today to get the issues dealt with, again, for the 3rd time. And they still insist that they cannot do the reflash. This time around the dealer service Manager states that the ECU is different on my SI and the TSB is for 2006's which have a different ECU. Sounds like BS to me. My Si does fall out of the VIN range. But the bucking in 1st gear is now intolerable. just crossed over the 4,000 mile marker.

So I simply asked him that I would like to take advantage of the Texas Lemon Law. 3 strikes your out I said! He said that for that law to apply there would have been 3 repairs made that did not fix the issue. So I said that I brought the car in 3 times and each time you couldn't do the repair. So if you can't repair the car then it does fall into the lemon law parameters.

I was told to call American Honda to make the complaint with them. I plan to do this.

I find this issue completely ridiculous. I mean it's a software glitch (maybe) and my car sucks because of it. So stay tuned as I'll be pushing Honda hard to fix this.

I just want some clarification. My 08 Si's VIN is 8H704866, which falls out of the range.

However, when I start up my Si in the morning and let it warm up a bit and drive off in 1st gear, it bucks occasionally. Goes away when the engine gets to operating temperature. Did notice some RPM hang, but not as bad as some of you guys are describing.

Do I have the symptoms and worth getting a reflash?

Thank you!

I have the bucking you speak of below 110-120 degrees coolant temp but no rev hang (no excess, anyway). You already have the "reflash" so it won't do anything. You'll get used to it.

I have an 08 si Sedan. Mine also has that buckling/ surging problem when it's not fully warmed up. But I guess I'll learn to live with it. I just have to warm it up first.
My VIN does fall in the range, however it's an 08. Doesn't that mean that it should already be flashed or have that rev hang fixed?

My VIN.....8H707552

All current production has the fix. You should be set.

He told me I'll get used to it and learn how to drive. ???

BS, I know how to drive stick. Did we ever figure out if the hondata reflash fixes this issue too,or not?

Hondata's reflash does nothing to the DBW function as per their own website. This is a function they have had trouble cracking and would be required for a "K-Pro" style tuning option.

My letter, sent to HOA this morning..

June 6, 2008

American Honda Motor Co, Inc. re: VIN# **
Mail Stop 500-2N-7A
1919 Torrance Blvd
Torrance, CA 90501-2746

Dear Sir or Madam,

This correspondence is being sent regarding a known issue with the model year 2006-2008 Honda Civic Si (sedan and coupe) with “hanging rpms”. Prior to purchasing my Si I did some reading up on this issue and though it seems resolved for the older models (2006, some 2007), it would seem the newest generation (2008) shares this quirk as well. Having driven many DBW (drive by wire) vehicles, my last one being a 2001 VW GTi 1.8T, I have experience with feel and operation of an electronic throttle system and this is not normal.

As I was looking to purchase a new car, the sporty Si came to mind and thanks to my local dealer, *************, the price was right and I signed all my papers yesterday afternoon (06/05/08). My sales person asked if I wanted to take my new car for a test drive and I jumped at the chance. This is a fantastic vehicle and much more fun than my VW was, but the rpm hang was a concern the entire time. My sales person said I’d have to re-learn how to drive my vehicle, and I begged to differ. Being an electronic throttle, there HAS to be a way to let the rpms drop much like the reflash that was done on the earlier cars (TSB 06-052). It made the vehicle very annoying to drive. If I was to drive and shift like a 70 year old woman, this might be acceptable, but I purchased the Si with higher expectations.

I was proud to say I purchased a Honda product knowing Hondas reputation for quality and durability, but with this issue, it might make me think twice. I would ask that Honda of America live up to it’s reputation of commitment to high quality and please look into this issue and make attempts to resolve it.

I will be awaiting your response to my complaint and hope to continue doing business, now and in the future with the Honda Motor Company.

Sincerely,

Crusin_w00kie

Hopefully this gets us somewhere.

You bought the car yesterday and are complaining directly to Honda this morning? Give it a few days at least to give yourself some time to see what is and isn't normal. Compare it to another owner's Si if you can. I think you might be a little bit hypersensitive.

Actually...I knew of the issue going into it, I have driven others friends Si's so I already know of the problem. The rest of the car is mint, but the hang is a PITA. What's a letter gonna hurt? right?

Anyone know if this is effecting any Si's as new as 08' - I have a sedan that doesn't drop like I think it should. Any video or a before and after comparison, or a after FOR comparison? My VIN ends in 84708600 - so I'm way out of range I'd say...but this sounds a lot like the behavior my car has. Hmmm...
