Motor blew. Tell me why I should get a Civic!

Hey you guys, my engine blew in my '92 Prelude today, so now I have to make my decision on what car to get now. I wanted to hear from you Si owners the pros and cons on them. Come on, spill it all.

I won't ever own an american car, thanks though. I grew up on Hondas. I just wanted reassurance from Si owners, but I'll figure out myself. I might look into getting just an EX. I'm desperate right now, and the 19ish thousand for the EX looks a lot better than the 24ish thousand for the SI (I like my cars with the bells and whistles! )

I have had my NBP SI for two months now and really like the car. I would recommend it and I have had good cars in the past to compare it to. I still have an 04 Accord Coupe, Had a 03 Infiniti G35( it was an alright car, very plasticky for the price, but good permformance) and before that had a 96 Nissan 240SX. My SI is very solid and love the sound of the engine and exhaust.

If you like bells and whistles, you'll regret not getting an Si. The Si is 100% worth the price differential with an EX.

GO for the SI. Add bells and whistles later. I had an 06 EX Coupe and upgraded to the 06 SI and am very happy that I did.

Quote from a friend of mine who I let drive it (hard as hell) the other night:

"There is no way this car should still be on the ground."

This after hairpining on 2 wheels at about 45mph. For the third time in as many laps.

Well, that's about all I needed to hear. Thanks for all the comments everyone.

I haven't actually gotten a quote at a dealership yet, that 24ish that I said was what Honda's website said. That's with the bodykit, Navi, etc. I probably won't even be able to find one with those two options (plus the fog lights).

Actually My dealer bought back my EX for full retail because I was having repeated transmission problems.

I bought the EX Automatic for gas milage due to my 60 mile each way daily commute. Once it started having transmission issues I started wishing I had gone manual. Once I discovered a way to work that was 35 miles of all twisty canyon road, I wished I had an SI. After the transmisson repeated it's issues the forth time (third repair attempt), I told the dealer to buy it back and put me in an SI. I basically told them that they had a choice either a Honda hater/basher for life and a lemon-law case or a happy owner/customer for life if they put me in a new SI for MSRP. They did and here I am recommending an SI to someone.

I bought a base SI non-navi with no options except for the Trunk Liner, Wheel Locks and Mud Flaps. My payments went down compared to my EX with HFP Front lip, 17" HFP wheels, Toyo Proxes, Fogs, Day night mirror, wheel locks, Moon Roof Visor, mud flaps, all weather floor mats and trunk tray. Then the dealer called me back a week later and told me that they had gotten a lower interest rate for the new deal so my payment went down again.

That's how I ended up with a RallyeRed SI I'm not a red car fan but it was the only one my dealer had and I wanted to jump on the new deal before Honda came out with a TSB to address my tranny issues. (They were electrical issues with the tranny not mechanical)

I have had the SI for about 9 weeks and about 8000 miles and I LOVE it. I love it so much I that all my talking about it convinced my brother to order himself one. His comes in next week NBP.

Since I've gotten the car I've started collecting upgrades, within the next week I will have all of the upgrades of my original EX plus the HFP suspension, Progress rear bar, Heim joint rear swaybar end links, K&N intake, ScanGauge II, Greddy Evo2 catback, 18" wheels instead of 17's and Momo's instead of HFP wheels(For Weight reasons The HFP 18's are 22.5 pounds the Momo's were 19.6)

As I said earlier buy the SI and Mod it later. It has plenty of creature comforts to keep you happy until you can afford to start upgrading.

You can add the Fogs, and Body kit later through ebay and save $500-$600. I was bound and determined to have navi with this car also but once I got it and drove it. I'll live without. Eventually when prices drop some more I'll put and aftermarket navi in that can also do dvd's for less that the Honda navi system cost. That's just my 2 cents. If you gotta have it you gotta have it. best of luck with your decision.
