Radar detector mounting in Si

Hi,

I am thinking about getting a Valentine V1 radar detctor for my 2006 Si. I'm looking for a way to mount the detector that would be as low key as possible. The windshield visor is pretty close to my head and the window has really steep angle, so I'm curious to see how you have dealt with these challenges.

If any of you could post a picture of where you mounted your detector, or describe where the best placement is for your radar detector it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

if you're going to get the most out of the V1's 360/arrows, you need to mount it in the center of the windshield where it has a clear view out the back windshield. That means saying goodbye to the incognito V1 plans.

just my 0.02,
Chris

ok, here ya go. I have a tint strip across the top of my windshield which helps in the stealth factor. My Cobra also has 360 scanning, works fine here. Its saved my butt a few times!

That's pretty much where I have my Escort mounted. My theory is that the
satellite antenna (the black speckled area in the photo at the top of the
windshield) will reflect REAR signals down onto the rear detector, which some
preliminary tests seem to indicate works fine.

FYA, that speckled area is not an antenna. It's there to prevent glare when you look in the rear view. As far as reflecting radar, I have no idea.

I have my V1 mounted smack dab in the middle. **** stealth!

yeah, the black speckled stuff my tint guys refers to as "computer generated micro-dots". He knew of know use other than glare reduction, and he hates it for tint. In fact, in my back window, he put black VINYL on the dot areas.

Thanks for the response guys! grcivicsi06 -excellent picture, worth 1,000 words or maybe more. I like the tint strip idea a lot, it does add to the stealth factor.

This may be a dumb question, but can you hardwire a radar detector in to avoid having the stupid ciggerett adaptor pluged in??

Yeah...look in the DIY section. There's a pretty good DIY there on hardwiring a V1.

Are you guys in a state where radar detectors are illegal? They're legal in most states and if you're in one of them, who cares if a cop sees it? If you're speeding and a cop is close enough to see it, you'll get a ticket if you were doing anything wrong.

be careful, though with the V1. The shape of the power adapter is such that if you push it in too far, you'll short out the civic's plug. (I did it already. apparently, there was a TSB about this. something to do with a "safety feature" for cars without the cigarette lighter option. it automatically shorts out if pushed in too far. I found the fix for this by buying a radio shack two-one outlet splitter (it's more rounded at the tip, less likely to trip the fuse if you use it as an adapter).

good luck with the V1. definitely the best of the best as far as detectors go. (and i've owned almost all of them)

kinda, but no. They will write you a ticket for it, BUT there is a "Radio Frequency Reception Act of 1938(or someyear..)" that supposedly makes it legal to have radar detectors, plus they're a passive device. But they will STILL write you a ticket, and what I've been told is its because no-one has spent the money to challenge it. Maybe B.S., I don't know. My radar detector is undetectable by radar detector detectors, so that's a little help,
