how fast si really is?

I am planning to get an si in a month.
just got a test drive today.
we had 4 people in the car,

The handling is great. I never expected steering to be that sharp from a 21k car.
I love the exhaust note and the overall interior and exterior.
The clutch is one of the easiest clutch I've ever driven.
noticeable throttle lag, but I got used to it after 2 to 3 shifts.

However, I was a bit disappointed on the acceleration. It wasn't the best condition to test the acceleration of a car thought. The road was wet, and there are 4 people in the car. it's 70% humidity and around 40oC outside.

I think I probably need to test drive it again during good weather.

Anyways, just wondering if you guys have any thoughts about the acceleration of the car.

Four people will make a huge difference. The smaller the car is, the more influence passengers and cargo have (if the car is 4000 pounds empty, adding in four people only adds 20% to the weight; if it's 2000 pounds empty, those same four people might add 40% to the weight), and the Civic is a small car.

Speed-wise, it's not objectively fast, but if if you drive it hard, it feels fast. I maintain that this is a good thing, since a lightly-powered car driven all-out is a lot more fun than a high-powered car driven to a fraction of its capabilities. I know I have a lot more fun pulling out of stoplights with this than I did with the (objectively more powerful) G35.

I think its fine. The Si has NO low end torque so we suffer acceleration wise, but in the high end, the car is orgasmic!

But yeah, 4 people in the car + wet roads = no fun.

I find it accelerates good, but the gearing means it revs out quick in 1st.

Just to oversimplify it a little bit with estimated quarter mile times based on weight/power:

3200 lb car @ 197hp = 14.75
3800 lb car @ 197hp = 15.62

A full load makes a big difference. Also, this is hp at the wheels, not engine but I figured I'd stop there.

4 people makes such a HUGE difference i cant even explain. Even when i have my hockey bag in the car i notice a difference. This car feels great when your by yourself but soooooooo much slower each time you add a passenger. Try and get a test drive by yourself, the difference will be astounding.

The car is quick enough. It probably doesn't feel like that cause it needs more torque.

torque is needed to pull weight, hence semi's and such with relatively low HP but insane torque. We don't really have any of that so it suffers pretty hard when it's full. It's way fast for me by myself and even w/ 1 person it's alright. I don't really like driving like a d*ck if i have more than just me or my friend in the car anyway...

I think the Si is super fast for a Civic, & it's certainly fast enough for me.

from my experience, Si is only fast when there is no one else in the car besides the driver. Si is just as fast as 350z and g35 when comparing stock vs stock acceleration.......

Try driving with AC on a hot ass day. The Si feels super sluggish. Hot weather+AC+full car = walking speeds.

That was to illustrate how weight matters, not to predict how much his car actually weighed.

It's not a fast car...it's 3000 pounds with 200hp. Next.

wow... thanks for all the replies..
So I can fully blame on the hot weather, AC, and 4 people in the car for the slow acceleration.. haha
I'll have to test drive the si again before I make the purchase
