Most blowouts are not from too much pressure but too little - that is why they added TPMS to all cars.
In the 70's I tested tires one summer for uncle sam - for blowout - you need close to 100 psi in a 32psi rated tire hitting a pothole at 45 mph. You are safe filling any tire to the max pressure on the sidewall - if you can stand the ride. I tried 40psi in the Dunlop rate 44psi but the civic wandered in the wind. 36psi is just right for me. |

I just wish somebody would tell these AAA guys, who are interviewed everytime the news does a story on hypermiling, that there is no problem filling past the recommended PSI on the door jam...... and that hypermilers dont tailgate.... and that it's not a hazard to do the speed limit...... etc etc |

HAHA! Thouroughly enjoyed reading through this entire discussion today. Funny stuff. Anyway, I've always filled my tires to the max on the sidewall (all tires I have had have shown max COLD ratings), and I have never had a problem. I've used 7 different sets of tires between 4 different vehicles, and my tires have always lasted at least as long as they were supposed to, if not considerably longer, and I wasn't light on them by any means - spinning em, sliding around corners, driving like a fool basically. And in my Civic, I've always gotten atleast 32mpg with any kind of driving - city or highway (straight highway driving is usually upper 40s by the way), light (rarely, unless with the wifey or parents) or "very spirited"... That's just my .02 - And don't anybody get their panties in a bunch and jump all over me about any kind of proof, logs, etc - I got nothin but what I just told you.

I could watch my hair grow drivin behind some people! I can't stand it when people want to go 10 or 15 OR MORE below the limit - And by the way, if any of you are on here - it is ticketable! My dad almost got a ticket once going to work for driving too slow (and it was even like 3AM when nobody else but the cop and him were on the road!)

Cops are mostly jerks around here. When I had my truck (in high school), it broke down on a 4 lane road (I was all the way on the right edge, as far as I could get it before going over the curb) - a cop came by while I was under the hood checkin it out and was all like - "Need to get this off the road! I just walked over to drivers door and tried to start it a couple times with him standing there staring me down. (Start up, putter, putter, putter, die, start up, putter, putter, die, etc...) He was like, "Did you hear me son?!" I said, "Does it sound like I'm goin anywhere to you?" He was like, "You need to push it on up to that parking lot (which was for a park, not a store or anything) and get it off this road. It's blockin traffic." I'm thinkin WTH?! I said, OK sir, t hen he just stared me down as if to say, "Are you gonna get started?" I said "I'm not exactly going to be able to get it anywhere without some help." So he gets in the drivers seat and says "Alright push." So we get it into the parking lot, and before I can even ask him if he could take me somewhere or call somebody for me or somethin, he got in his car and took off! So I had to walk about 2 miles to get anywhere - I just walked home. My parents went hysterical when I told them about the cop - they couldn't believe it. |

Definately. That's perfectly fine. I'll admit that I'm in a hurry alot and tend to go a little too fast, but I don't gripe at people when I get behind em for going the limit or even a couple under. I just get frustrated when they're going rediculously slow.

The max PSI on most tires are around 51PSI. You can safely use this amount of pressure, if you are carrying the maximum load in your car. Example, 5 passengers, and trunk full of suitcases and golfbags. The max Load on are cars are roughly 800KGs i think.
Either way, you can safely run 50PSI if you are carrying more weight in the car. but make sure to measure tire pressure when its dead cold. the tire manufacture takes into account how much a tire expands when hot, and that is how they came up with the max psi number when the tire is COLD. |

yeah tell that to the state trooper that gave me 2 speeding tickets within a month.... motherf*cker. i get pissed when ppl drive under the speed limit. they should have their own road or lane to f*ck off on. i think they will let u slide on about 5mph over the limit. not much more
