Stock radio antenna on roof
Has anyone tried fishing a wire to run next to the existing antenna wire on a 2006 Civic Hybrid? I am wanting to install a small antenna on the car but the problem I have been running into is that when I run the antenna through seal between the trunk lid and the car it creates a gap that allows rain to drip into the trunk.
I do not want to install a bilge pump just because I have an antenna on the trunk. Any suggestions? |

I thought about a glass mount antenna but thie antenna I want to put on the caris for amateur radio so it will be a somewhat larger amtenna. It will be about 1.5 to 2 feet tall and the glass mount antennas just don't do well for ham radio.
I was curious if anyone has actually run a wire / antenna out the same hole on the roof where the car's radio antenna is located. How much disassembly is involved in getting to that antenna? If there is too much involved I might just consider some other less appealing options. Thanks for your reply! If you have ever done any work like what I am asking about I would appreciate some insight as to what is involved. Thanks! |

I wouldn't recommend doing that. you'd have to remove the headliner completely.
I've done this before; run your antenna next to the rear bumper, under the cover but over the bumper itself. This will give you added range over putting it inside the car. You can also add about 6dB of gain to the antenna with a small linear amplifier. |
