Civic Hybrid cab spotted in NYC

Well I was strolling to work yesterday morning when lo and behold I spotted a mild mannered Civic hybrid impersonating a NYC cab. Upon closer inspection I realized that this was no impostor. Looks like NYC’s plan to make the entire taxi fleet 25-30 MPG compliant is well under way.

I saw a Altima Hybrid yellow Taxi a couple of months ago (Park Ave & 53rd St NYC). I wonder if I can scan one of those Hybrid stickers for my Si? It'd make driving on the LIE a lot faster.

I don't like the fords...but it was nice to have the whole fleet out of just one model. Now there's a whole bunch of them, even lexus330

CT has yellow HCH's all over as well.

I haven't seen any of the civics in NYC yet. Mostly all ford escape hybrids plus the odd Highlander hybrid.

I have seen many more Ford escape hybrids in NYC and not too many other hybrids. I find the HCH to be a little less practical due to the limited leg room. If they're all charging the same fare, sad to say, I would avoid it, unless I was riding shotgun, but then again, I don't take taxis so it's a moot point.

Screw taxis, take mass transit or walk. In NYC you can rid bus/subway unlimited for $7 for a one day metro card, or get a monthly and it is around $4 a day.

Taxis are a total rip off and I can't wait to see a day without them in the city.

I think most cabbies drive retired police cruisers bought at auction, and there are a TON of Escape hybrids in NYC, so I don't think Ford really gets hurt by this much at all.

Nice to see some variety though. Here in socal there's a lot of 1st gen Scion xBs as taxis.

Totally disagree on taxis here. They have their place. If I am going to a meeting in the middle of summer in a business suit I am not taking the subway and sweating like a pig waiting around, its taxi and A/C all the way. Well worth the 6-7 dollar ride.
