Hybrids In Carpool Lanes

Seems like anytime I find news about the Civic, it's about the Hybrid. Here's another interesting article...

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la...home-headlines

"There's a mentality out there that we're a bunch of liberal hippies or we're trying to make some statement on the environment."

Hybrid motorists even have a term for the ill will: "Prius backlash."

No disrespect... but every Prius driver I have ever had in front of me drives super slow...

As far as driving in the HOV lanes... I really don't think there are that many Hybrid drivers out there yet. That carrot was put out to get people to switch to a cleaner alternative. It didn't really catch on that great. Gas prices were a much better motivator...

And now the Hybrids can sit in gridlock with the rest of us...

LA drivers will blame traffic congestion on anything. The article quotes one generalization from one interview that hybrid drivers barely go over 65 mph. WTF is that sh*t? That's like saying all blacks are criminals because I saw a few black guys break into a store once. Bullsh*t. Sorry to bring race into the conversation...just trying to make a point. Anyhow, LA traffic is horrible at any time of the day and the diamond (HOV) lanes aren't usually any better if the regular lanes come to a crawl. Don't start blaming hybrid drivers. Blame yourselves for not getting out of the house 15 minutes earlier to get to your destination. I agree that LA has some of the most incapable drivers out there (particularly when it rains...or even drizzles!). Most drive too fast. LA drivers don't realize that the speed limit in HOV lanes is the posted speed limit...which is 65 mph. There are a few slow drivers out there, but never too slow. LA drivers also don't understand courteous driving like moving out the the f*cking way when someone behind them in the fast lane or HOV lane is travelling faster. Don't complain when you're travelling at 80 mph in the diamond lane...you aren't supposed to be going that fast in the first place. If LA drivers drove less agressively (or more passively) LA would be a great place to live and there wouldn't be so much congestion.

Anyway, I'm glad I moved out of LA because of the traffic. If it weren't for the traffic (and my horrible job situation at the time) I would have stayed in LA. Now I have to deal with SF Bay Area traffic which is getting more and more like LA. Ugh.
