Cvt

hello,
first of all sorry for my english but i need to ask something.
if i drive with my car and i see a light jumping on orange then i switch from D to S so my car will slow down more and then i don't have to brake hard.
but i wonder if this is ok with the cvt, because i don't wanna break it.

If I were you I would leave the automatic transmission in D the whole time...brakes are designed to wear out as they do their job, and are much cheaper to replace than a transmission, which should last the life of the car.

The S and the L are there to be used. You are going to get less regen when you use that, and if you're having to jam on the brakes maybe you should re-evaluate your driving style. I do not know if the laws there are different about stopping for orange lights, but I know here, if you're close enough that you'd have to stop short, you have enough time to go through it instead. If you see it from a ways back, you can use the brake pedal just enough to get the charge bar filled up without having the friction pads used, and you'll roll slowly getting some distance even during idle-stop.

The S is useful to force battery regen when you first start the car. The car saves gas while coasting but the normal functions don't work until its warmed up. Forcing the regen helps build heat and improves your gas savings.

As for break wear its a hybrid. You brake anyhow during regen. Its always going on so forcing a regen with S is no different that using regen while coasting except you can use S while the engine is still cold just after starting.

Helps build heat: yes
better mileage: NO. If it did, then honda would just set the car to rev higher when first warming up.

Its been tested by personal account. I can dig up another forum post to link. Slight but still there testing of downhill driving on D vs S use.

Were talking 1 if even mpg increases here but to some people every bit counts.

As stated in the manual, you can use S (Second) to help you slow down. These are simulated gears; They are not mechanical.
