i just dont understand the crz.
what catagory/type of person is honda aiming for?

its not sporty jsut cause it has 2 doors.
its not fast.
it doesnt get great mileage.
99% of the hybrid owners will not want a manual.

IMO, this car is as big of a fail as discontinuing the s2000.

^^^ well to answer your questions:

Maybe its on a class of its own.
Its no slower than a civic hybrid/insight
ITS A HYBRID.
They offer CVT paddle shift transmission.
Its not meant for speed.
It gets good MPG....not meant to compete with the prius...good be better but im sure real time MPG numbers will be better than what is posted.

It Looks good imho.

ya the ipad is pretty useless. but i don't think the crz is fail. Just wait till it comes out, check it out, drive it and see. I'm not saying you will like it but i mean common, someone who wants a hybrid but doesn't want an ugly car like the insight or prius (typical original hybrid look) can opt for the CRZ. its a sporty looking hybrid...and its gonna be priced nicely.

My guesses:
1. The homosexual who wants to be 'sporty'.
2. The people who drive prius's and are sucked in by the 'sporty' honda marketing.
3. Old people who want to have a 'neat' car.

again you people seem to take the word "sport" wayyyy to much. The work sport is very vague. There are plenty of cars out there that put "sporty" on their cars. Not just Honda in general.

To answer your comments:

Honda has stamped their 2 doors with "sport"...I own an EP3, 2 door hatch....wait can a hatch be sporty? Malibu, can a Chevy Malibu to sporty? Ford Focus.....these car mfg's put sport on their cars in general. The word fun can mean sporty

Since when was Hybrids ever fast?

MPG's is still better than my FA5, and takes 87....

I want a manual Hybrid...just because you or I want/do not want it doesn't mean we speak for the rest of the world.

And your last comment fails all in general. S2K's weren't even mass produced and their sales were crap!

Honda is moving towards the right direction. Soon Hybrids will be on the track, just a matter of time before they start making more advanced and lighter battery cells.

Lets try again.

1) The japanese home market which will love this car.
2) The europeans who now will have a hybrid they can shift themselves.
3) The niche market of Americans who want a hybrid they can shift themselves.

1. The japanese don't even like this car (can't blame them...the concept was leaps and bounds better looking...this is just fugly and dull).
2. Europeans don't like hybrids, they're smart and just drive diesels...they're better anyway.
3. People who want a car where they can shift themselves would just go get a Fit...you get sporty handling, virtually identical mileage, more practicality, for a cheaper price.

This car will be a massive failure, just like Honda's Insight has proven itself to be. If I were stranded on the side of the road and someone offered me a ride in their CRZ, I'd decline it...that's how awful I think this car is.

I don't see the reason for all the optimism. Honda has proven quite nicely that it sucks at building hybrids that people actually want to buy. Honda's Accord Hybrid failed miserably, Ford tries with their Fusion Hybrid and it ends up being the highest selling hybrid in it's class, beating the Camry Hybrid and Altima Hybrid. As for the Civic Hybrid, most folks are much better off spending some extra cash and getting a Prius...even with their recalls...looking at the Prius's sales numbers, it seems that the buying public agrees with me.

Great looking. Would love it if it had either great fuel economy or great performance. Or even great utility.

Sadly, it loses to the Honda Fit in all three categories. Who is this car for, besides a semi-retarded chimpanzee?

When I first saw the CR-Z announced, I thought I would be lining up for this car. I figured Honda would deliver 40-50mpg car with the handling and acceleration of an Si, maybe better with the torque from the electric motor.

Alas, it's complete garbage that is a step back from the original Insight in every way but style.

1) The Insight is one of the top sellers in Japan. The CR-Z will be less accepted as it lacks some of the usefulness of a hatch but it will still be popular.

2) Europeans are buying fewer new diesels than past years. They are still the most popular engine choice for most markets but hybrids have been gaining grounds. A hybrid thats faster than most fuel sippers and has an MT is going to be an impressive vehicle in Europe.

3) 31/38 estimated and even higher for the CVT tranny is still a class ahead of the Fit by EPA definitions.... Who cares. The CR-Z shares enough with existing models there won't be much R&D to overcome. It may not sell in large numbers but it wouldn't sell very well not matter what engine Honda gave it. A K20 powered CR-Z would no more vastly improve the Honda bottom line than the current hybrid.

Insight is pretty crappy compared to the Prius, especially in the mpg department which is what people are looking at in the first place.

CRZ would be sweet with a k20

The Fit A/T is 33/28 and 33/27 for the Sport.

A class ahead? Whatever.
