06 hybrid 114k battery question

car is no longer starting by battery. it's now using the starter, which i stumbled into by holding the key back for a few seconds.

any suggestions?

just had the ac compressor replaced and picked it up yesterday.

didn't take it to dealer. can't afford $2000 for compressor replacement.
paid a friend to do it. i watched. only thing he did was turn the breaker off behind back seat. the rest was at the compressor.

The start still draws its power through the 12V battery up front which doles out the proper voltage. Could be just a dying 12V. Any other electrical issues?

Huh? I have never had the car "start" by the hybrid battery. the car always starts in the normal fashion (turn the key and the starter kicks in).
I would like to hear more information on this because if there is a more economical way to start the car, I am all for it!

well from what i know our cars don't have a starter. its the electric motor that spins and starts the gas motor. at least that's what it sounds like to me. i do not hear a regular starter when i start mine.

Our cars do have a mechanical starter. It just needs to be really cold/hot for them to avoid an electric start.

I am glad I read these posts! I never really considered how my car starts! After reading this I noticed I don't hear a starter. My wife's HiHy doesn't have a starter, but Toyota's system always starts with the electric motor.
Thanks for the information!
