Brake pad replacement questions
I'm a bit over 62k miles and I need to start looking into replacing my front brake pads. Have any of you had to replace these yet? If so, at what mileage did your original pads wear out?
Do the fronts wear much faster than the rears like on most other cars? Also, can you please provide feedback on the pads that you replaced the OEM ones with? Is there a superior brand/compound (i.e. Hawk Performance, etc.)? Finally, did you have to resurface/replace the rotors at the same time as the pads? Thanks! |

the back brake pad usually wears out @ 60k on non-hybrid vehicle.. but i'm not sure how long non-hybrid will last. if u live in s. cal, i could help u replace the pad.. just buy the oem honda brand pad.. it's usually $45 bux. |

Replacing the front brake pads on the Civic is very easy. the most time-consuming part is getting the car on the jack stands and taking the front wheels off.
My fronts lasted 65,000 miles. I bought some ceramic pads from Autozone when I replaced mine. |

well i replace my front brake for the first time. Had only 25k miles. Pads were 3mm so i had to replace them. I havent done the rear brakes yet, still got about 6mm or 5mm. I recommend you when you do your service minder (A service or B service) um.. inspect the brakes and the rotors that r not scratch. Yes u can resurface the rotors or replace the rotors. U gotta go with the minimum specs in order to cut the rotors. I recommend you to replace the pads about 4mm or less.

i changed the front at around 45k. damn i though i did good.....but u beat me by a long shot....i used a lot of cruise control too to help me get that many miles. anyway the rear on the hybrid are drum brakes so those take way longer to wear out.
i recommend dealer pads to avoid squeaky sounds later on. |

I looked at them today. Even with 113,000 miles they look brand new. I guess the brake force distibution valve on the hybrid is not the 70-30 I am used to, but more like 95-5, which would engage the rear drums in a panic stop and are engaged by the parking brake, and not much else.
