I've driven the UK oil burner 5 door hatch. It is a very interesting car. I hooked up with Wayne over at cleanmpg.com and got to drive one from Stroud Ok to the far east side of Tulsa. A hell of a car!

then when he started trying to get good mpg he was over 80mpg.. pretty sick.. right now in my area diesel is the same price as 87oct...so you'd have a longer lasting, better mpg rig with the same fuel cost... i'm looking for a downside Last edited by whtdvl; 06-08-2009 at 12:36 AM. |

Diesels are less user-friendly and less efficient the further you go into colder climates. There is also extreme elevation to watch out for, if you're ever taking a trip up a mountain. The stink and noise should be cured in the new generation of clean diesels, but the engines still vibrate, and that can lead to leaking connectors (ie. hello, A/C problems). All diesels in passenger vehicles are turbodiesels, so not only do you get late power while the turbo spins up, you also risk burning it out when parking your vehicle.
