civic hybrid intake

alright so i've had my civic hybrid for a month and a half and was doing research on some of the intake mods. Fujita makes a short ram intake specific for the HCHII and companies such as k&n make filter upgrades.
does anyone have these or what are your opinions. they improve engine performance and some mpg i've heard.
anybody have either with results?

intakes for HCHII, what do you think...pics.

I have the K&N air filter. No noticeable difference in fuel economy. One less thing to spend money on replacing now at least.

I've wanted to hear from someone who has the short air intake. In theory the worry over heated air could work to your advantage. Heated engine air will help your car warm up faster and stay above the critical temp needed for best FE and autostop conditions. Of course how much fuel you could save vs the cost of the intake.... I'll let someone else test it out.

true that. who knows if a civic could be that powerful yet with that mpg.

i was thinking on doing at least the k&n filter upgrade but really want to do the short ram air intake and maybe even with a heat shield. who knows. i dont mind if it costs 160 but yet gets me better engine performance and probably better mpg.

anyone with any opinions?

My $0.02? not worth it

I think you would see very little difference in performance or fuel economy, and I do not think it is a good use of your money.

This engine is hardly starved for air, except at the upper limit. If you spend a lot of time taching up the CVT in your HCH, it's just my opinion and I mean no offense, but I think you bought a car that does not suit you. The very smart engineers at Honda designed this powertrain to maximize fuel economy. It's a very slow car. Don't try to make it faster. Keep the tach under 2500 rpm for maximum fuel economy.

I don't think that trying to get more air into the engine will warm it up faster. The engine gets warm because it's burning gasoline. If it's warm outside, the engine will be at optimal temperature (~70 F) right away. My HCH will autostop within sixty seconds from a "cold" start this time of year. If it's a cold winter day, it will take longer for the engine to warm up, but a short ram intake is not going to accelerate that process. Although an engine block heater might...but that is hardly an exciting modification, is it?

If you really want to mod it somehow, and I do understand the itch, consider lowering it a little. It will look cool, and it may improve your fuel economy. Or replace the hood with carbon fiber to make the car lighter. Or get some lighter aftermarket rims (actually, there are not many rims that are lighter than the OEM pie plates).

I wish you good luck and, whatever you do, let us know how it turned out!

As I've mentioned before, if you're considering such modification you're past bother by driving a hybrid much less care what other think or comment.

I've tested with KNN, CAI and SRI.
each show diff result but SRI being the fastest but comsume the most petrol.

Currently i'm setup with KNN and CAI which reap the best result without affecting the FE

some of the test result i did (0-100k/h) with the following setup
1 KNN drop in @11.15sec
2 KNN with Cold Air Intake @10:45sec
3 Fujita SRI @10:15sec

base on the temperature here, with CAI installed i can get average 30-40C compare to 50-60C with stock intake which indrectly helps on FE

I didn't realize Fujita made an intake for the HCHII Hybrid. Very cool. I could certainly use some extra pep, though it won't be much.

Anyone found a link for the part number? All I have found is the 2006-2007.

Question Cai?

If bengteck or someone else could clarify, I am not sure what is meant by CAI with respect to the HCHII. I looked at the stock air intake on my vehicle and it looks pretty "cold" to me. I'm not sure how any bolt-on part could make it colder. The intake is at the very front of the engine bay. I do not know if this setup is different on the other Civics, but it sure looks like a cold air intake to me. P.S. I am definitely not an auto mechanic but our other family car has a stock cold air intake.

I've PM bengteck about it. He said he is running a flex hose to the front of the bumper. I am guessing the gains are due to setup sort of having a ram air effect, plus the hose he is using is probably a lot bigger then the stock one and less bends in it, so it's less restrictive.

You've answer them yourself, Cold Air Intake
HCH2 also petrol driven so no diff from other car except extra IMA
since in my country, its all year summer so on the hot afternoon i'll get 60C on stock but not sure if your place same kinda temp
our stock intake wind around the engine bay which can be very hot removing them do lower the temp
Other Civic setup totally different from us
Since the external air now rushes in instead of stock heated up by the engine bay bef entry to air filter therefore help in the FE

my hose abt 3 feet long entry from the hole beside the fog lamp
hose diameter only 2.5 inches, same dia as the stock
its not the bend but bypassing the hotter route
btw it must work with KNN drop in as stock paper might not take the abuse

I've been thinking about it too, but the fact is I'm only doing mods that either are for aesthetics, or will increase FE. So, unless someone can convince me that the SRI will help my MPGs, I'm passing on this one.
