2010 new Honda hybrid spied
Great. Bigger than a prius. So much for a lightweight, smaller insight-like fuel saving model. I guess they're going to try an do battle with the Prius. Toyota's new plug-in prius for 2010 is a crock going only 7 miles on electric only. The hefty weight of NiMh batteries means it cost $50 cents-$1.00 in electricity to charge the batteries after 7 miles. If a gallon of gas gets you 46 mpg in the current prius for $4.50 a gallon. 7 miles for 75 cents is about the same cost per mile. No cost savings then, just a marketing gimmick for the uneducated. Hybrids need lighterweight vehicles using LiIon batteries. Until then, I'm not buying another hybrid. I still have my deposit on this vehicle that I found out about last December. This is a vehicle that is not designed by mainstream manufacturers trying to protect their service departments by giving them a maintenance intensive ICE. Or, influenced by oil industry lobbyists who fight to keep the CAFE satndards as low as possible. It reminds me more of the old CRX (with 4 doors instead of 2) than it does a Prius.
Although, what's the deal with automakers recently subbing out front grille design to Gillette? I thought only Ford was doing that with the Fusion (hence the name). Last edited by FlyingBrickyard; 09-14-2008 at 10:55 AM. |

More Photos, including interior shots
Still more photos It debuted at the Paris Auto show this past weekend. The back end definately is reminiscent of the old insight. It looks like a CVT transmission. I'm sure the funky looking headlights won't make production. |
