Honestly it can make a big difference. When I first got the hybrid in 06 I was excited to make EPA estimates on 42 mpg in city. This was at the fresh off the lot 34 psi. After some reading I went up to sidewall 44 psi. Instant ticket to 48 mpg. Slowing down and adding a few more techniques, block heater, and grille blocks and now I'm just shy of 60 mpg and hoping to break it by summers end.

So little story moral is higher pressure is a good thing. As long as your not going over the limit. Granted you drive a sporty car where lower pressure might be desirable but if your talking about fuel economy then upping the tires is a must.
I get my tires rotated and balanced every 5,000 miles and they check the pressure every time. And that's actually one thing my dad does EVERY time I go home is check my tire pressure, it's kinda annoying. But it's right on the recommended tire pressure. I do have 225/40ZR/18's though, rather than the stock 215/45ZR/17, I know that is probably knocking a mile or two of my mileage.

okay, i have the result here.

360 miles end with 4 bars left before i fill up again.

Mod = K&N drop in filter. ( haven't reset the ECU yet )

A/C is on 100% of the time. ( it's ridiculously hots here in the central valley )

90% city and 10% hwy.

normal driving and aggressive driving, about a half and half. ( didn't really drive like how a hybrid was really suppose to be driven )

so i ended with about 36 mpg.

I'll try again later on with the ECU reseted and no A/C this time to see if there's any difference.

never test with a stock air filter before, so i'm not sure if there's really anything mpg gain or lost here yet.

That's funny, I ordered one yesterday before I even saw this thread and I'll probably get to pick it up today.

Honestly I spent about two minutes thinking about the difference in what the filters do then I moved on like I have every time, seeing as how I've used K&N filters on every other car I've had, including a D16 with 240,000 miles on it, all successfully.

I guess you can debate this one til you're blue in the face though. I say it just depends on a persons better judgement and that person making a good call about the area they're in and how often to wash and oil their filter.

Hmm.... well that's cool. I kept my OEM filter in the K&N box so it'll still be as good as new if or whenever I decided to put it back in.

Anybody know if there's a DIY for the Hybrids intake to get rid of some of the excess piping or know if it's even a good idea? I really haven't looked at it closely yet.

I put my k&n in my wix filter box, just incase I go racing.

K&N does give a better throttle response.

i keep my stock filter just in case if something happen, but the k&n filter will not hurt your engine like a desert melted an ice just yet, maybe after 200,000+ miles. i usually check my maf, air box, and air tube and other stuffs for cleaning if necessary after doing an oil change just in case.

same here, i keep my stock air filter good as new in the k&n box for later use.

I probably not going to get rid of any excess piping or anything like that, because the Hybrid will be harder and more expensive to fix than the Si if something goes wrong.

Makes sense to me. I mean it's a 1.3... so while I didn't notice a change in the intake sound it's kinda like whatever. A little more efficiency was all I was going for anyway.

Not trying to be argumentative or anything like that, but increasing pressure that much is VERY dangerous. Not only is there more of a chance of your tire blowing if you hit a pothole or drive over railroads, or something like that, but in addition, air expands as it heats up (which happens when you drive), therefore, if you check your psi when its cold, and its at 44, for example, it will expand (even though its in a closed container, a tire expands to accommodate the expanding air), thus making it even more prone to damage. While you do get better mileage because of the reduced friction, it might not be worth it for safety reasons.

But obviously, that decision is up to you!

Sorry for thread jack... so yea... how bout them K&N intakes...

no problem.

i'm not sure if there's a k&n intake or any other brands for the Hybrid beside the k&n drop in filter.
