I don't know why they *don't* put the Hybrid motor in the Coupe in the first place. People shouldn't put the system in the most economic box they should...it should at least retain some good looks. Putting it in the coupe would be a good idea...though there was no word of putting it in in the next year's mid-model change.

A coupe/sedan body won't make a difference in performance as far as acceleration.

Your gonna have to wait for the CR-Z then but its no guarentee if it will come to the states. Hybrids arn't designed for acceleration, so your looking the wrong type of car period if you want "performance" cause you aint gonna find it in a hybrid thats out in the market right now

Honda CR-Z Concept to make production

Honda still has room to improve with the r18 and perhaps a better tranny. I think a r series engine with 2.0l of displacment would allow for more power to stay in the eco-vtec mode longer thus getting better MPGs. Also the auto trans could have a something like what Benz has in that the tranny can fully lock into 3rd gear or lock into the final gear. For city driving 3rd or 4th gear lock in torque convertor would be awesome. Or use a tranny design like the GM SUV hybrid.

All of the above would be cheaper than a hybrid system. But if gas prices keep on going up - it might be worth the extra cost.

BTW - I am a previous Honda Insight owner and loved that little hybrid.

Hope Honda would have enough common sense to spare their customers the misery of what I experienced with this Benz transmission. Had their high-dollar POS behind a small 4-cyl turbo-diesel in a Jeep Liberty. Lock-in that torque converter clutch and this turned into a dog to drive along with shuddering like a manual trans with a clutch going bad. Went through several versions of software and eventually a torque converter before DCX recalled them to reduce the engine output and loosen-up the lock-up clutch settings to save their transmission.

Nice thought....but I'll pass.

It should be vice versa.

Why don't Honda put a K20 in a Hybrid.

K-Sight... Honda Insight K Swap - Club RSX Message Board

With great power, should come with great mpg.

Well for one, cost. Two, decreased mileage. Three, premium gas requirement. Kinda defeats the purpose of a hybrid does it not?

48mpg doesn't seem that much of a decrease.

Would cheapen it since hybrid motors cost more to build.
