Automatic Shift Knob/Shifter Removal?

Has anyone with A/T been able to figure out how to remove the stock shifter? I've only been able to get as far as removing the cover plastic piece below the shift button but I'm stumped as to where to go next.

Fuji, you beat me to it.

Basically, you have to pry off the silver plate (#20), then use a Phillips to remove the two screws (#11).

Has anyone actually tried this yet?

Thank you so much for that diagram. Looks like I have a project to do on my day off

edit: I'm looking at the silver plate (#20) and it wraps around the knob, which means there is no real way to pry it off. I hope breaking the plate isn't the only way to get it out.

Pull the two corners toward the back of the car and press DOWN on the silver plate (#20).

Red Arrows = Two Corners

This isn't easy.

Once the plate is lowered you can remove the two screws and lift up on the shifter. It should come off easily.

Ok I finally got the stock knob off! You were right that was a real pain getting off. It was much easier with my brother giving me a hand. I'll try to post a couple pictures once I figure out how to put the new shift knob on.

Congrats and good job. Definitely throw some pics on here when you're finished.

Did you pull the sides with super finger power or did you use a screw driver? Also when you pulled off the sleeve (part #20), did you cause any damage to any parts?

Yeah I pulled at the sides really hard and had my brother push down on #20 and it came off somewhat easily and no there was no damage whatsoever to it.

As for my new shift knob, there seems to be a problem, I guess I got one that's not compatible for the Civic although on the box/description it clearly says that it's for an automatic. I guess I have to forfeit this project for now and find another knob, maybe a Momo knob instead of a 20 dollar Nokya one I got on eBay.
