Roof Racks
I'm currently looking to get a roof rack for my 08 sedan and my obvious choices are either going with Yakima or Thule. Do any of you guys have these installed on the sedan? If so, what are your thoughts on them? I need to get one for my kayak.
Doing a search, I found some people with Yakimas on the coupes, but nothing really about the sedans. Also, looking at Thule's website, they seem to have two types, square load bars and the new "rapid aero" bars made out of aluminum. Anybody see benefits/disadvantages to either? Thanks! |

I have a Thule rack system simply because I've been using Thule stuff for years, and I'm not all that crazy about the way the feet attach to the car. It's just a flat rubberized piece that goes between the top of the door and clings to the top of the doorframe. All that holds the rack on is a large amount of tension that is created by the two feet. I don't know if this is Thule's fault or Honda's however because on my old car (2003 jetta) there were little pegs in the doorframe for the feet to attach to.
Looking at the two types of load bars, the "aero bars" seem to be sort of a gimmick. They look a little nicer, but they still have those annoying plastic end caps that always end up getting lost. When they're gone, those suckers whistle like the dickens. |
