k20a2 swap

as a disclaimer i do not plan on doing this anytime soon.

anyways i was looking online at engines and alot of si's are wanting the frankenstein swap. i went to the link and looked at other engines and saw a k20a2. any chance this would fit in a FA1 R18? if its possible what should i know. yes in know its going to be a pretty penny, but if its possible i want to do it in the future.

thanks

I would assume it would be a direct swap. Frame and body are the same between the Si and the EX/LX as far as I know.

no where near worth it...You will have spend about 30 grand including the motor install and all that stuff....waste...why not sell the car and get an si or dump the K20 in an older hatch and it will be fast since it's lighter...and JDM yo!

It shouldn't be a hard swap at all. I would figure that you could just use stock fg2 motor mounts and whatnot so I don't think that you would run into too many complications.

But, just as someone else asked, why? If I were thinking about swapping my fg1 the first thing on my list would be an actual frank swap - a k24/k20. That way you could have somewhat decent tq numbers and a motor that handles boost fantastically.

One thing that concerns me though is your gauges.. I don't see how your gauges would work after a swap like that. I'm by no means an expert or anything, but it seems like since you would run into some problems there.

I don't agree with that figure at all. When I was contemplating an ek k20 swap I added everything up to about $12k for the full swap and to boost it, and that was including the price of an ek shell.

i think theres only one person who has done this and this question ops up alot

the guy has had tuning trouble cant get it running properly and spent wayy to much money trying to swap it over

i understand its the same car, its the same body but like stated i dunno exactly whats involved and i dont think anyone really does...

ive thougth about it and if i were to do it here what i would do...i would find someone parting out an si...grab the engine, harness, guages, pretty much anything and everything i would think needs swapped...ecu everything

now i dont know what good it would do but its basically just taking out your motor and harness and ecu, plus the guages, then swap everything from the si, makes sense but who am i to really tell anyone...i imagine in a few years this will be just as common and fairly cheap like a b series in older civics just give some companies some time

it's always expensive if you're the first person to do things.

Once some tuning comes out for this car, then i'm sure people will start swapping out.

I'm sure that when people first started swapping the B's into their 89 CRX's everyone was telling them "Why would you waste your money on that?"

yea and i always used to be for th eolder civics and swapping but now that i have my 08 ex i love it, i mean shit i can still chirp second it isnt "weak" i know i could take on alot of similar stock cars but its not a race car and i dont drive it like one, i like getting 30+mpg and thats city driving

i got the 7 year warranty so in 7 years or later when my engine is dieing or needs a change i hope its easier for the k to be put in...it just doesnt quite make sense that after dropping a k in and if you used the si harness and ecu why it isnt running properly

what are u smoking? I'm guessing u just pulled that price out of your ass.

I say go for it. Plenty of ppl asking u "why" and saying just get an Si. If u can afford the parts, u can do the labor yourself with proper equipment and knowledge. Or just have it all done. THen u will have yourself a serious sleeper.

except he can just get an Si and put a base model trunk on and have the same "sleeper" look. plus then he would have a warranty, a working dash, and most likely save a bit of money

the gauges were what i was worried about, ive thought about trading in for the si but why, i dont plan on doing this in the near future and if it were possible then you could stand out from everyone who has an si.

im not saying there is anything wrong with the si, but if this is possible in the future why not?

just look at how many posts in any R18 performance thread every other post says "trade for an si" doesnt really make me want to when ill be like everyone else.

there are so many people saying just buy an Si because it is so much more practical

well seeing as how im going to wait before i ever try to touch this, when tuning comes out for the R18 a swap could possibly be more practical to swap. and hopefully swapping si gauges will work. lol.

I second the idea of just getting a project car. That way you can have your d/d that you already enjoy and have a weekend warrior that can tear stuff up. I mean, if you're going to pay for the swap you might as well drop another 500 and get an ef hatch shell to swap it in. Talk about a sleeper..
