7th Gen versus 8th Gen Civic Sedan

My 8th gen Civci sedan is getting some work done on it by the dealership under warranty. They have given me a loaner 2005 Civic EX sedan with leather. After driving it for the past week, here are some comparisons of the two cars.

7th Gen Sedan:
Pros: Good gas mileage. Getting over 30 mpg despite driving it like, well, a loaner car. Reliable in the limited time that I have had it.
Cons: Rough ride (worse than my 1994 Civic), the rear suspension really bounces over bumps versus absorbing them, no low-end power, loud, corners like a shopping cart loaded with bricks, early 1990's exterior and interior design (I know because I owned a '87 and a "94 Civic back then), decreased steering "feel", easy to lose in the shopping mall parking lot because the style is so plain Jane vanilla, toy car horn.

8th Gen Sedan:

Pros: Alarm fob integrated into key, immobilizer chip in key, better steering feel, more solid cornering (improved even more by upsizing the tires to 215/45-17), absorbs the road bumps and potholes better without losing road "feel", less road/engine noise, more powerful engine, more stand-out-and-be -noticed styling inside and out. I actually miss the bilevel dashboard. MP3 CD player with aux jack for my iPod, better sounding stereo.
Cons: It's in the shop getting a paint issue fixed, rattle from the glove box, velour seats just a touch too soft and squishy for my tastes, still has a tin-can toy horn, could use a bit more low- and mid-range power without having to buy an Si. Some might not like the styling (I personally like it). Alarm really is just to lock the doors and detect unauthorized door opening. What about the trunk? What about glass breakage? Legendary poor Honda dealership customer service/attitude.

Overally, I'm really pleased with my 8th gen Civic purchase. I still miss the power and performance of my RSX-S. But I've gained a much more practical car that stands on its own merit for comfort, performance and refinement. Now I just need to get it back from the dealership!

Me too, for the most part. I don't understand how you could say that an 05 sedan had an old design, when in 04 they updated the front end to look newer (and it worked wonders). I personally don't like es1's that much, but they were definitely the nicest sedans until the 8th gen came out. I still like my interior.

WTF? I didn't realize this was a thread from the dead.
