Tips for new civic owners

"For example, I used to drive a 1998 Hyundai Accent. I gave it the cheapest gas, because it didn’t deserve any better :) Then one day, I tried Super Premium Ultra Deluxo gas on a lark, and got 19% better gas mileage. Since premium fuel is only about 9-10% more expensive than dirt cheap fuel, it is well worth the money. So I turned into one of the people I used to laugh at: dumping super premium gas into a car with 107 HP."
Precision Computing - Getting Better Gas Mileage

According to the American Petroleum Institute, premium traditionally has a slightly higher energy content, which can provide better gas mileage, but any gains will be difficult to detect in daily driving. If there is a mileage advantage, it will be a far cry from saying premium is cost effective and negates the extra cost.
Does premium gasoline get better mileage? - Ask.cars.com

1. Purchase your gas in the early morning or late at night during summer months. In the heat of the day gas expands at fuel stations so you end up paying more money for less gas. If you wait to fuel-up in the early morning you will get the most bang for your buck.

ah ha! I knew I wasn't imagining the benefits of using premium gas in my civic ex.

For my first oil change I'm using full synthetic mobil oil.
Cab anyone recommend the best oil filter? I was considering a Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil Filter.

giving a car a higher octane then it needs will just build deposits after time.

theres no reason regular civic owners should be premium fuel. But spending the extra money on gas from a good station can't hurt.

yea, buy gas on cold/cooler mornings, its more "compressed"

and contrary to what any idiot on these forums says... If the car says 87 octane, nothing more will get you "MORE" power. its impossible.

I don't know where you live but up here there is no such thing as "purchase early morning/late afternoon"

All the main gas stations do temperature correction. I recommend then that you buy gas in bulk in the winter months. It's coldest
